Australian magazine Wheels first coined the nickname Godzilla for the Nissan GT-R in the early 1990s after the R32-generation car’s absolute domination in racing. Having debuted for 2009, the current GT-R has been in continuous production longer than that first Godzilla and the succeeding two generations. Nissan gave the GT-R a refresh for the 2024 model year and has now announced pricing; the sports car will start at $122,885 (all pricing includes $1,895 destination charge).

What’s New

That 14-year run still pales in comparison to movie monster Godzilla, who emerged from undersea radiation in 1954 and fought his most recent battle in 2019. For 2024, the GT-R sees increased downforce and reduced drag through redesigned front and rear ends and resculpted wings. The T-spec returns for 2024; last offered in 2021, the T-spec splits the difference between the base GT-R and the track-focused NISMO.

Trim Levels

In case the power and the six-figure price tag didn’t clue buyers in that the GT-R is something special, Nissan calls the base trim Premium. Its twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 generates 565 horsepower and 467 pounds-feet of torque. The only available transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to all four wheels. All GT-Rs include basic comfort trimmings like dual-zone climate control and heated seats wrapped in leather and simulated suede.

Those looking for something more exclusive without the tremendous upcharge for the NISMO will like the T-spec. It comes with the same 565-hp V-6 as the Premium variant but wears wider front fenders and gold-painted 20-inch wheels with the NISMO’s carbon-ceramic brakes tucked behind them. The T-spec has an exclusive dark-green interior called Mori Green, as well as a unique combination of semi-aniline leather and suede. Two exclusive exterior colors recall some of the most collectable GT-Rs from the R34 generation sold outside the U.S.: Millenium Jade and Midnight Purple.

The GT-R NISMO features a suspension that is brutally stiff, but with 600 hp and 481 pounds-feet of torque, the car is also brutally fast. (Okay, all GT-Rs are brutally fast.) This year sees the NISMO add a limited-slip front differential and a new rear wing design that features so-called “swan-neck” supports and an almost 10% larger surface area for increased downforce.

Pricing and Availability

Sales of the Nissan GT-R Premium and T-spec are expected to begin this spring, while the redesigned NISMO will go on sale later in the summer. Both the T-spec and NISMO will be produced in limited numbers. Full pricing is below.

  • Premium: $122,885
  • T-Spec: $142,885
  • NISMO: $222,885
