If you’re afraid of thieves jacking your portable navigation device, perhaps Maplock is the anti-theft accessory for you.

Maplock has a locking mount for your aftermarket GPS unit and a sturdy cable that locks around the steering wheel. Of course, any device like this is more to say to potential thieves, “Look at how much trouble it would be to rob me! Go smash someone else’s car window.”

Presumably, a pair of bolt-cutters could make it through the cable or short of that, a hacksaw could make it through the steering wheel. Or a skilled thief could pick the lock. What we’re saying is any product like this is more deterrent than actual security.

Maplock costs $50, which seems steep considering you could stash your unit and wipe away any suction cup residue for the price of a napkin and some spit.
