Affected vehicles include model-year 2024-25 Mazda3s and CX-30s. The sophisticated airbag sensor may cause an error and deactivate the airbags due to a low battery condition. In the event of a crash, airbags that fail to deploy can increase the risk of injury.

As a fix, dealers will reprogram the SAS unit’s software or replace the unit for free. Mazda will notify owners July 28, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-222-5500, option 6 (Mazda’s recall number for this issue is 7525E), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
