Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1,200 model-year 2014 BMW X1 sDrive28i, xDrive28i and xDrive35i SUVs
The Problem: The battery-positive cables may develop high resistance in the connections to the fuse box, resulting in loss of the cable’s electrical connection. This may possibly cause an engine stall and prevent the vehicle from restarting, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the battery-positive cable connector with a silver-coated cable connector that’s better secured to the fuse box for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners April 3. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
