Looks like: The Acadia took growth hormones and swiped the Terrain’s front-end styling

Hits dealerships: Early 2024

The Acadia is GMC’s entry in the crowded and competitive mid-size SUV class. It’s been a three-row vehicle ever since its introduction for the 2007 model year, but when the Acadia was redesigned for 2017, GMC took the unusual step of significantly downsizing its dimensions. But for 2024, GMC is changing course — again.

Going Big

With the completely redesigned 2024 Acadia, GMC is going big again. The all-new, third-generation model is substantially larger than its predecessor — it’s 3.2 inches taller, 10.6 inches longer overall and has an 8.4-inch longer wheelbase. GMC says these upsized dimensions translate to almost 80% more cargo space behind the third-row seats and more than 36% more space behind the second row. The new Acadia can also seat up to eight passengers; the previous generation maxed out at seven. The larger footprint brings the Acadia back to parity with its corporate counterpart, the Chevrolet Traverse (which is also redesigned for 2024).

No More V-6

The previous Acadia offered the choice of a 228-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 310-hp, 3.6-liter V-6, but the new model is four-cylinder-only. The sole engine is a new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 328 hp and 326 pounds-feet of torque. It’s paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive is available.

Fuel economy numbers aren’t yet available, but maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, an improvement of 1,000 pounds over the previous V-6-powered Acadia.

Super Cruise and More New Tech

GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system joins the list of available Acadia features for the Elevation Premium and rugged AT4 trims in addition to the ritzy Denali. The system functions on more than 400,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada, and the new Acadia gets the latest Super Cruise capabilities, including trailering assist and automatic lane changes.

Also new is a standard 15-inch, portrait-style infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-In technology and customizable displays; an 11-inch digital gauge cluster; and a configurable camera-display system with up to nine available views, including a 360-degree surround view and a trailer-hitch view.

Luxurious Denali and Off-Road-Ready AT4

As before, GMC’s signature Denali trim reigns as the Acadia’s flagship trim level. It comes with a host of lux trim touches inside and out, including a flashier grille design, laser-etched wood trim, bright chrome accents, perforated leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats. Available Denali features include 22-inch machined-aluminum wheels, a panoramic moonroof, heated second-row seats and a 16-speaker Bose premium audio system.

The AT4 continues as the upscale, off-road-focused Acadia. It’s optimized for rough terrain via front tow hooks, integrated skid plates, a 1-inch ride-height lift, a wider track, 18-inch all-terrain tires and an off-road-tuned suspension with hydraulic rebound control dampers. The AT4 also gets other exclusive features like hill descent control, a selectable Terrain drive mode and an upgraded Active Torque Control AWD system with twin-clutch rear differentials.

Pricing and Release Date

GMC says the new Acadia will be available in early 2024. More details, including pricing and fuel economy, will be released closer to the launch date, so stay tuned.
