GreenHouse is best known as the creator of the MicroFueler, a portable, at-home micro-refinery system that uses sugar to turn organic waste into fuel. With Shaq as an investor, the company hopes to spark interest in its home-ethanol systems. Shaq has jokingly told reporters that he will eschew the nickname “Diesel” for the more eco-friendly “Big Eth.”
Shaq says that he and his family have always looked for ways to be environmentally friendly.
“I tried it, I liked it,” O’Neal told the Orange County Register. “I flew to Southern California to see it first-hand. It’s cost effective and it works. Hopefully, with my presence, people will look at [the fuel system] and they’ll try it.”
The MicroFueler produces ethanol for roughly $2 per gallon, which is below the current national average of $2.62.
