Smart USA will use specially outfitted semi-trailers to promote its new mini-car this summer in 44 cities. Smart USA’s president said the company will “invade” the U.S. with the marketing push of three trailers, each carrying four vehicles.

We came away from the Detroit auto show with mixed impressions of the Smart ForTwo and how well it will do in the American marketplace, but — if Scion is any indication — a marketing plan like this one, for a new brand looking to gain awareness, is a smart good move.

The company hopes to have 50 to 60 dealers “appointed” around the same time as the tour, but an actual date when the cars will go on sale has not been announced.
