CARS.COM — Because Tesla doesn’t do the usual auto-show-introduction thing, we were pleased to get a look at the production version of its new Model X near Cars.com’s hometown of Chicago. The SUV was embarking on a tour of 29 North American cities, where it’s being shown to future owners. Model X delivery for new reservations still is scheduled, Tesla says, for “the latter half of 2016.”
In person, the Model X looks more like a large hatchback car than an SUV, but the same could be said of many “crossovers” these days. It seats six or seven in three rows of forward-facing seats and incorporates all the capabilities and characteristics that make the Model S sedan the most intriguing EV to date.
Because they’re in the rear, the Falcon Wing doors always look awkward in photos, but in person they somehow seem almost as cool as do upward-opening doors on supercars. We look forward to driving the Model X soon and reporting back.
