Trailering With a Tesla? Make Sure Your Model Y’s Light Is Fixed

If you purchased your Tesla Model Y with the intention of using it for towing and hauling, first: Why? Second: Make sure your brakelight is fixed. The first recall for the Model Y has been issued to owners who ordered Tesla’s smallest SUV with a global rear lamp and the $1,000 Tow Hitch Package.

A software error prevents the illumination of trailer brakelights. This could lead to a failure to illuminate during braking, increasing the risk of a crash. To resolve the issue, Tesla will notify the 2,500-plus affected owners and has already released an over-the-air firmware update to cars as of Sept. 23.
