Up Close(ish) With the 2024 Buick Envision: (Probably) Better Inside

A few months ago, I traveled to Detroit to get a sneak peek at the redesigned 2024 Buick Envision. Due to circumstances beyond our control, however, I couldn’t look or sit inside the updated SUV, which is unfortunate because that’s where Buick gave the Envision the bulk of its changes. (Per Cars.com’s ethics policy, we pay for all travel and lodging at such manufacturer-sponsored events.)

Premium Exterior

Outside, updated front and rear styling gives the Envision a more premium look; the front styling borrows heavily from the beautiful Wildcat EV concept Buick brought to auto shows a couple years ago, and frankly, more Buicks should. Actually, Buick should just build the Wildcat EV, but I genuinely can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a Buick concept I didn’t like — or one that has made it into production. Any little taste is simultaneously nice and disappointing.

The good news for Buick is that this new generation of the Envision looks better prepared to compete with premium compact SUVs like the Acura RDX and Lexus NX.

Premium Price, Too

Giving off a premium air is important for the 2024 Envision, as it’s priced to be a premium vehicle. The base model is priced at just over $37,000 (including destination), with the loaded Avenir trim rising to over $48,000. That price structure sometimes undercuts competitors like the aforementioned Acura and Lexus, as well as the Infiniti QX50.

Premium Interior?

Unfortunately, I couldn’t see or sit inside the new Envision, so I can’t confirm whether or not the interior lives up to its premium promise. Most disappointing is the elimination of the Super Cruise hands-free driving system, at least, after Buick had initially announced it would be coming to the 2024 Envision.

A new 30-inch display is standard and encompasses both a digital instrument panel and the center touchscreen, and from the photos, I can confidently say it looks like a massive improvement over the outgoing Envision’s setup and suitably upscale. I’m also confident that graphics will look great and operations will be intuitive, as this has been the case on preceding GM displays. We’ll have to wait and see if this holds true, however.

We’ll also have to wait and see how upscale the rest of the interior is. The photos of the ST’s interior, with rich-looking maroon upholstery and trim, also show what may be a fair amount of hard plastic and lower-quality materials. Those elements aren’t unique to SUVs in this class, but we can’t be sure how the Envision compares until we get a chance to sit in it.

Someday soon we hope to see another example of the new Envision — especially one we can actually sit inside and maybe even drive.
