VW Arteon's U.S. Arrival Confirmed
CARS.COM — Volkswagen released two images of the Arteon, a swoopy sedan positioned above the Passat, a couple of weeks ahead of the car’s full debut at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. The automaker also confirmed the new Arteon is coming stateside — a different sentiment from November 2016, when a spokesman told us it was only “under consideration” for the U.S. to replace the slow-selling CC.

The images confirm what we glimpsed in a video sneak peek that Volkswagen released in late 2016. The Arteon is a coupe-like sedan with a new direction for the brand’s face: a ground-to-hood grille like the ones in Volkswagen Group’s Audi division, but with upper crossbars that blend into LED headlight accents. It’s certainly more expressive than VW’s current design. In back, the taillights evoke Mercedes-Benz’s latest C-, E- and S-Class coupes.
It all portends a fetching design, but coupe-like sedans often sacrifice visibility and cabin room to get there. Volkswagen promises the cabin is “exceptionally spacious, with ample head and legroom for all the seats,” but we’ll reserve judgment until we see it up close. Expect more details on the Arteon at Volkswagen’s March 7 press conference during the Geneva show.
