CARS.COM — Front and center in the 2017 LexusLX 570’s center stack is a button that reads Climate Concierge. As a harried parent of a tween and teen, if I see a button with “concierge” on it, I’m going to push it in the hopes that it makes my day a little smoother.
In the LX 570, the Climate Concierge works to quickly heat or cool the SUV using its multizone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, and the heated steering wheel. The system divides the car into as many as four climate zones and the cabin temperature is controlled through sensors in the front and rear seats as well as the steering wheel. The backseat’s infrared sensors measure the surface temperatures of the rear passengers. The system is available in the LX 570, 2017 LS 460 and 2017 GS 350.
In cold weather, pushing the Climate Concierge button will turn on the heated steering wheel and seat heaters while waiting for the car’s heater to kick in. Once the seats are at a comfortable temperature, the seat-heater temp is automatically reduced before eventually being turned off; at this point, the heater will be on and warming the cabin.
In the summer, the concierge button cools the car’s seats quickly before the air conditioner kicks in. The concierge system monitors the climate zones and makes adjustments as needed — even turning on a seat heater if a passenger is judged to be too cold.
The system worked well when I tested it in cold weather and it did make my life a little easier — even for a moment. I’d call that a win.
