Lexus’ RX SUV was redesigned for the 2023 model year, and a plug-in hybrid version joined the lineup for 2024. The lineup consists of gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. For 2025, changes are minimal and include a couple of new design packages and a larger standard digital instrument cluster.

What’s New for 2025?

The RX sees a couple of changes for 2025. First, a new F Sport Design trim level is offered on the gas-only RX 350 and hybrid RX 350h models. It wears black front and rear bumpers, grille and 21-inch wheels; inside, there’s black open-pore wood trim. Unlike the F Sport Handling version, however, it doesn’t have a sport-tuned suspension.

Also, a Black Line Special Edition variant is available on the RX 500h F Sport Performance hybrid. It wears Incognito gray exterior paint, black mirrors and exterior trim, black 21-inch wheels and orange brake calipers; only 500 will be made for sale.

Lastly, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel display is newly standard across the lineup for 2025.

The 2025 Lexus RX continues to be available with several powertrains. The RX 350 is powered by a 275-horsepower, turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine that makes 317 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It comes with standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive; the F Sport Handling comes with AWD standard. Model-year 2025 EPA estimates aren’t yet available, but the 2024 RX 350 gets an EPA-rated 22/29/25 mpg city/highway/combined with FWD and 21/28/24 mpg with AWD; little should change for the new model year.

The hybrid-powered RX 350h has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works with two electric motors for standard AWD; it puts out a total of 246 hp and 233 pounds-feet of torque and pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Again, EPA estimates for 2025 aren’t out yet, but the 2024 RX 350h gets 37/34/36 mpg.

The RX 500h hybrid gets a turbo 2.4-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors, combining to produce 366 hp and 406 pounds-feet; it comes with a six-speed automatic and AWD. The 2024 RX 500h’s fuel economy is 27/28/27 mpg.

Lastly, the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid combines the 350h’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder with more potent electric motors and a larger battery pack for a total of 304 hp; it pairs with a CVT and AWD, as well. For 2024, Lexus says the PHEV has 37 miles of all-electric range and is good for 36/33/35 mpg in hybrid mode. The brand also says the RX 450h+ can be fully charged in about 2.5 hours at 240 volts with the standard 6.6-kilowatt onboard charger.

Tech Features

Standard tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel display. Notable available tech features include a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital key system that turns a smartphone into the vehicle key, head-up display, 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium surround sound system, wireless device charging and perforated semi-aniline leather upholstery.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard across the RX lineup. The tech suite bundles several safety and driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure steering assist, road-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and Proactive Driving Assist, which combines lane-centering steering and adaptive cruise control. Notable optional safety and driver-assistance features include a remote parking system and an autonomous low-speed driving system called Traffic Jam Assist.

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, the 2024 RX was named a Top Safety Pick. It earned good scores in several crash tests but a poor score in the difficult updated moderate overlap front test.

In Cars.com’s Car Seat Check of the 2024 Lexus RX 450h+, the SUV earned straight-A grades thanks to ample room for two car seats as well as easy-access Latch anchors.

Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Lexus RX?

If you’re interested in one of the new trim levels this model year, opt for a 2025 RX. If not, you can save some money by opting for a model-year 2024 version since prices are up for the new model year and not much has changed.
