What’s the 2026 Ford Bronco’s MPG?
What Car Shoppers Need to Know |
| The 2026 Ford Bronco is available with a variety of engines, as well as a manual or automatic transmission. |
| No Bronco gets particularly good fuel economy, with the most efficient model rated at 19/21/20 mpg city/highway/combined. |
| The 2026 Bronco’s base price is $42,790 (including $1,995 destination fee). |
If you’re shopping for a 2026 Ford Bronco, fuel economy is not your top priority. Few similarly sized SUVs can match the Bronco’s off-road capability, but virtually all of them are more efficient. However, with the Bronco’s tremendous variety of drivetrain offerings, its fuel economy can vary greatly. Gas prices being what they are, an extra 1-2 mpg can be a nice bonus.

By the Numbers
The Bronco’s base engine is a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 325 pounds-feet of torque. A 330-hp, twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 with 415 pounds-feet of torque is optional on the Outer Banks, Badlands and Heritage Edition trim levels and standard on the Stroppe Edition, a sort of Raptor Lite. The range-topping Bronco Raptor gets a larger twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that puts out 418 hp and 440 pounds-feet.
Four-wheel drive is standard on every 2026 Bronco. The base four-cylinder is available with a choice of a seven-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic, while the 10-speed is standard with both V-6s.
No matter what type of vehicle you’re shopping for, fuel economy varies with the engine, transmission and number of driven wheels. The Bronco adds additional variables such as wheel and tire size, which vary with trim level and whether or not you opt for the off-road-oriented Sasquatch Package. Larger off-road tires are heavier, consuming more energy to turn and decreasing fuel economy.
What doesn’t impact fuel economy for the Bronco is the number of doors. While the base and Badlands trims offer a choice of two or four doors — and therefore a longer, heavier body — fuel-economy figures for the two body styles are nevertheless the same. In this case, the bricklike aerodynamics of an upright body, plus the flat nose and the mass of the wheels and tires, impact efficiency more than weight.

Versus the Competition
The Bronco’s only direct rival as a dedicated off-roader with standard 4WD, a removable top and a choice of two or four doors is the Jeep Wrangler. Like the Bronco, the Jeep’s fuel economy trails that of similarly sized SUVs. To make the comparison as direct as possible, figures in the table below are all for model-year 2026 four-door SUVs with 4WD. (Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner.) All prices include destination charges.
| Model | Base Price | Powertrain | City/Highway/Combined MPG |
| Jeep Grand Cherokee | $42,915 | 293-hp, 3.6-liter V-6; 260 pounds-feet of torque; eight-speed automatic | 19/26/22 |
| Jeep Wrangler | $41,035 | 285-hp, 3.6-liter V-6; 260 pounds-feet of torque; six-speed manual | 16/22/19 |
| Ford Bronco | $42,790 | 300-hp, turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder; 325 pounds-feet of torque; seven-speed manual | 18/21/19 |
| Toyota 4Runner | $45,865 | 278-hp, turbo Turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder; 317 pounds-feet of torque; eight-speed automatic | 19/25/21 |
| Honda Passport | $46,445 | 285-hp, 3.5-liter V-6; 262 pounds-feet of torque; 10-speed automatic | 19/25/21 |
