Replacing Your Wiper Blades

Why is it Important to Replace Wiper Blades?

As you drive your car, your wiper blades are exposed to environmental conditions, dust, and debris; all of which contribute to their wear and tear. Step-By-Step Wiper Blade Replacement Instructions

Tap each step to check off which ones you've completed
1
Identify the size and type of wiper blade you will be replacing to determine effort.

For Frame and Winter style blades you can just replace the rubber squeegee part. Beam/Aero style require replacement of the entire blade.

2
Identify the unlatching mechanism for the blade.

Each manufacturer has a different design. In some cases, you can simply pinch and pull. In other cases, you need to push a button, and in others a physical latch needs to be unhooked.

3
Unlatch the defective wiper blade.

Some jiggling might be required.

4
Most blades will come with a rubber optimizer pad. Use this optimizer to clean the wipers before installing them.

The optimizer solution helps remove debris and grease/oil, etc. from the rubber.

5
Latch the new wiper blades (do the reverse of what you did to take the old ones off).

What types of wiper blades do I have?

How to change your wiper blades really depends on the type of blade you are using.

There are 3 types of wiper blades:

1.Frame Style Wiper Replacement:

These are the oldest type of wiper blade, and are the most commonly seen in vehicles. Typically, these allow you to remove and replace just the rubber squeegee part which is the most cost-effective replacement. These tend to work well in mostsituations. However, if you live in winter locations, the claw-type structure can trap ice, and leave whole segments on your windshield un-wiped.

2.Winter Blade Wiper Replacement:
These blades adopt a similar design to the Frame style wiper blades, with oneexception. They come with a rubber sheath over it so ice and snow can’t collect. They are designed to withstand harsher weather environments.

3.Single Beam-type wiper blades replacement:
These are a low profile, and aesthetically better-looking wiper blade, which doesn’tcollect ice very easily. They tend to be more expensive, and unlike the other types require you to replace the whole piece, and not just the squeegee part.
