I purchased my truck from Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in June 2024, after my previous GMC Sierra began experiencing transmission issues. That experience was devastating in itself — the Sierra had low mileage and I still owed approximately $17,000 on it when the transmission failed. It was not used for off-road driving or abuse of any kind, yet it required a major engine and transmission rebuild far earlier than any reasonable owner would expect. Frankly, that failure shook my confidence in the GM brand. The slogan “Like a Rock” once represented durability and pride — but this Sierra has been anything but. I replaced it with another GM truck in good faith, hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, history repeated itself. The truck I purchased from Rick Hendrick Chevrolet has now developed serious engine issues — a well-documented and common problem — at only 119,000 miles. The repair is estimated at nearly $10,000, and I’m still making over $700 per month in payments. To be clear, the service department at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet has been excellent. They were professional, transparent, and communicative throughout this entire ordeal. My frustration is not with them, but with General Motors’ unwillingness to share in the cost of this major repair. I contacted GM Customer Care twice to document my concern. Despite being a loyal GM customer, no goodwill coverage or partial assistance was offered. Even a fair solution — such as GM or the dealer covering the parts while I covered labor, or vice versa — would have demonstrated integrity and loyalty to customers who have stood by the brand. Instead, I’m left to shoulder a $10,000 repair on a vehicle that, by all reasonable standards, should not have suffered such a catastrophic failure at this stage. While I commend the professionalism of the dealership’s service staff, this entire situation has been a $10,000 lesson — one that has permanently changed how I view GM’s commitment to its customers. With disappointment but respect, I can no longer in good conscience continue to support General Motors. Once this vehicle is paid off, I’ll be forced to explore other brands that truly stand behind their products and customers. Respectfully, A long-time GM customer who expected better from a company once known for building trucks “Like a Rock.”
