Great Dealership

Thank you Jason for helping me through my purchase. After deciding on a GMC Terrain and test driving and dealing with other dealership all over Lancaster County. Wissler's was the right choice for me. It was the best deal with the best salesperson. This is the second vehicle I have purchased from Wissler's so I know the service department is also great to work with. Thank You Wissler Team.

Severe Damage from Auto Body Repair Department

My 2017 Jeep Renegade, which I purchased from Susquehanna Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge in June of last year, was hit twice during the March 21st snow storm while parked in front of my house. Fortunately, both people stopped, called the police, and had insurance. My auto insurance is through Erie, and I was recommended by both Erie and Susquehanna to come to Wissler’s to have my repairs done. I brought my car to the body shop at Wissler’s for an assessment, and then brought my car back on April 2nd for the repairs. I was finally able to pick up my Jeep on Tuesday, April 17th. During this period, I was given a massive Chevy Suburban from Enterprise which I couldn’t even park in front of my home due to its obnoxious size. When I picked up the car on the 17th, I noticed the brakes were squeaky, which I was told was just rust build up that would resolve with driving, which it did. I drove my car home from Mount Joy back to downtown Lancaster. On Thursday, April 19th, I drove my car from Lancaster City to Leola and then to Hershey and back home. I only noticed that my muffler sounded slightly louder than usual, but it did not seem suspect. On Friday, the 20th, after working for 12 hours, as a nurse, I was parked in the Target parking lot on Fruitville Pike when I noticed there was new damage to the right side of my lower bumper. Upon further inspection, I realized that the bumper covered up the ENTIRE side-by-side exhaust pipes, which had then subsequently burnt a hole through the bumper and was very hot. I immediately drove home and parked the car. Upon making a personal Facebook post about the severity of the situation, I was contacted by Ted on Saturday morning, who had gotten wind of the post before I had a chance to call the body shop. Mind you, I was also scheduled to work Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 7pm. I told Ted that I preferred to speak with my insurance company before agreeing to bring the car back and I would not be able to do anything until Monday. I did not, at anytime, feel that that the response from Wissler’s was concerned with the serious nature of this negligence. I spoke with Erie on Monday and was assisted in organizing the additional repairs. I requested, upon speaking with Susquehanna directly, that the Jeep should be evaluated for any engine issues after the bumper was repaired. My Jeep was picked up at my house on Monday, after hours of fielding a horrendous amount of phone calls. This time was planned to be spent completing school work for my nursing bachelor’s degree, which put me seriously behind schedule. The rental car I was then giving was a ridiculous Nissan Cube. Yesterday I had to call the auto body shop to ask for an update. Today I was notified via text message, by Susquehanna, that my car had come in for inspection. I never got a call from your body shop, and due to my schedule, had limited time to pick up my car. When I picked up my car, my gas tank was on empty. When I asked about that, Ted told me there was a gas station down the street. I have never experienced such dismissive customer service. As a woman, I am horrified that your men in that shop would treat me with such utter disrespect, unwilling to acknowledge the gravity of the error. In several different ways, I could have been killed, and I assure you sir, I am in no way being dramatic. The amount of times that I was “blown-off” by your staff, and to end the situation with an empty gas tank is completely unacceptable. I have contacted Susquehanna as well as the Chrysler corporate headquarters to file a formal complaint. I have been advised to seek legal counsel, as well as email you directly. I have also notified the Better Business Bureau to address this negligence. I do not feel this matter was addressed with sincerity or a concern that matches the severity of the situation. The disrespectful handling of this situation also makes it clear to me how your auto body shop treats women.

Dealer response

Wissler Motors said on 04/27/2018 11:14 AM (Private Message) Ms. Lehman – Thank you for reaching out to me with your concerns. It was originally brought to my attention by Ted, the Body Shop Manager, on Saturday after he heard about the issue. I am very proud of how we handled a very disappointing situation. Ted reached out to you directly and did not wait until you addressed it with him. I preach to our employees that when we make a mistake, we fix it, and Ted made every effort to get it resolved for you as quickly as possible. What Ted found was that there were two possible bumper configurations for the VIN on your Renegade and the actual bumper is then determined by the package. The wrong bumper was subsequently ordered and sent by MOPAR, the parts company of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles which we in turn installed. When installed, typically a bumper is placed on the vehicle by two individuals, one on either side, so that extreme care can be given to make sure the quarter panels are not scratched when affixing it. Normally bumper installations are a “plug and play” type attachment meaning they are snapped into place and it isn’t a cumbersome process for a good fit and finish; typically not needing verification of a correct fit. This is where we made the mistake of not reviewing the job and looking underneath, as the second tailpipe was hidden behind the bumper and was not seen. Ted has been with us for 37 years and the technician who worked on your vehicle has been here for 34 years; both extremely good at their jobs. Mistakes happen to all of us and I apologize this happened on your vehicle but am, again, very pleased that Ted took responsibility and attempted to rectify the issue as quickly as possible for you. Regarding how we treat women…with all due respect, we expect nothing but the best from our employees whether we are dealing with a woman, a man, the elderly, etc. Ted himself has 5 daughters and would not treat any woman with disrespect and I know he would expect the same of others for his family. Again, I apologize for our failure to fix your vehicle the first time in the shop. I hope Ted’s current fix on the Renegade is meeting your expectations of quality. Sincerely, Devin Wissler Vice President & General Manager Wissler Motors 717-653-2091 x141 devinw@wisslers.com EricaLehman has read this message
