"Experience Clear and Simple Car Buying and Selling"
They assured me I will get a fair market price for my trade in , their offer is $3000 bellow wholesale price , this is the second time I went there to... get a vehicle appraised and received an low bowl offer , their advertising is a classic bait and switch like most of the used car dealers , waste of time , if you want to sell your car for next to nothing go to Carmax, they can help you with that, I emailed them to get a response and received no response , they can post their reply on this public forum and explain themself how they appraise a car and how their appraisal is not contradicting their advertising (you will receive a fair market value)
Be careful what they tell you. I was told on the phone by a "senior" consultant in their flagship store in Virginia that they had put in reserve... a car I was interested so it could be transferred to my city. The sale man in my city checked and said all was good and took my credit card info for the transfer fee. Then I heard nothing. After a few days I called and was told that the car had been sold! I emailed that "senior consultant" and have not gotten a response, much less an apology. That was the first time I dealt with Carmax and probably the last. If you're going to do business with them, I suggest you put all communication in writing (email or text). I was lied to. Hope you'll have better luck.

Location- Indianapolis, In ~Gray Rd. Worst car buying experience I’ve ever had. Tried to finance us at 12.5%... when we were just quoted at 5% everywhere... else. Only went here because they had the exact car we were looking for. Asked reason for high rate. Was told our credit score. WRONG! Our credit score is wayyy above good. Refinanced 12 hours later through our bank at LESS than 5%. Carmax makes their money on jacking up their interest rates and telling you it’s your fault the rate is so high. Do NOT believe them. Go to your bank. No matter what, any bank will finance a lot lower rates. It’s a hassle, but we saved over $13,000 by taking the time to do this! Horrible customer service. Horrible finance department. Manager was rude! Beyond rude. Not professional at all! Lied to us and only told the truth when we proved he was lying. Salesman was clueless. Took 45 minutes to leave lot to test drive because he kept forgetting one thing or another. I felt like I was witnessing a circus when we were standing around waiting. It was quite comical. Best part of my buying experience was watching all the employees scurrying around, like clueless circus animals. Was told the car was being detailed while we signed papers. Another bold lie. It was obvious that didn’t happen. Even the things we pointed out to be detailed beforehand didn’t happen. This place is a joke!!! Serious- please go buy your car somewhere else!!
Took my 21 year old daughter this morning to see a car she put on hold yesterday-a 2014 Cruze LT with less than 4000 miles on it. My daughter works 4 jobs,... and has managed to save $10,000 for a down payment. This basically new car was on sale for around $12,600. I went with her to help her through the process. As a three time Cruze owner, I wanted to be sure of the quality of the car and that she was treated fairly. I couldn’t have been more impressed-from how ithe seat of the car test driving it, to the sprofessionalism of the transaction itself. Every step was explained to her and all options given as far as warranties, etc. From pulling into the parking lot, to taking a picture of my smiling girl hugging her champagne colored Cruze with a bright yellow bow on top-under 2 hours. The sales woman hugged both my daughter and myself. Never have I experienced kinder salespeople, nor a more professional environment. You will be seeing more of this Fort Wayne family!
Value the opportunity to sit in and drive a great variety of cars. However after I paid to have a car transferred, there was no communication follow-up... by the sales rep. By the time I went in to check on the car it had already been sold to someone else. The sales rep claimed the cellular cloud must have lost his texts. The sales experience is no different that any other dealership, yet the prices are higher. I'd recommend using their inventory to find the right car, then shop around. You will likely find a better deal, often times with a 12/24 month warranty included. Note: Carmax is supposedly going to refund the amount I paid to transfer a car I was never able to drive let alone see in person.
I contacted CarMax regarding two vehicles and I already had financing. I even went into the dealerships to physically look at the cars and told the salesman... I was working with that I had. He had less than stellar follow-through. Long story short, I purchased a car elsewhere this past Friday.
Don't offer to pay cash, they want you to get a loan so they can make money off the interest. The sales people need a refresher course on manners and customer... service. I had interest in purchasing a vehicle but they had this "we don't care if we sell a car" attitude. It was like the attitude you get from the people at the BMV. The people there look miserable half the time. I would never do business with them and will be sure to pass my experience on.
I just wanted to share my experience with a CarMax chain (Chicagoland area) in my area and their gross negligence and all-around lack of customer empathy.... Here’s a quick breakdown of what happened: April 3rd- Trade in my old vehicle and purchase a new vehicle from local CarMax location. April 5th- Leave town for Indianapolis for my son’s soccer tournament with 4 other children. April 6th- While driving down the highway at 70mph, brakes go out completely. Now first off, let me just say that there is nothing more terrifying that trying to come to a stop when you realize you have no brakes. This level of fear is only heightened knowing that your own son is in the car along with four other children that you are responsible for. There must have been someone or something watching over us because luckily we were able to get off on an exit and loop around back onto the highway without any collision to eventually slow enough to come to a stop. For that, I am beyond thankful for. I wish I could say the same for CarMax’s customer service. After calming all four children down (and myself), I called the CarMax location where I originally purchased the vehicle. Of course, they initiated the game of ‘Call this person, we cannot help you’. So I called the nearest location and they say that they are sending out a tow for us. Over 2-hours later: nothing. Absolutely nothing. Imagine having 5 children in your car for that long on the side of the road. I decided I could not wait any longer and got the vehicle towed to a local mechanic myself. At the repair facility, I find out from the certified mechanic that the reason the brakes failed was because they were not secured properly. The mechanic informed me that the brakes were supposed to be fastened with two (2) screws to the brake wheel. My brakes were only attached using one (1). A common mistake, maybe? Yeah right! One of CarMax’s famous brags is that every vehicle goes through a 125-point inspection! My question is how would something THIS important that is holding the driver’s side brakes together go unchecked during this inspection??!? The entire auto body shop began to flutter in and out to see the mechanism and it was the general consensus that we were “lucky to be alive”. I called CarMax again to schedule a loner car and to inform them I will be bringing back the vehicle for repair. I distinctly said that I had FIVE children with me along with myself, and would need a vehicle that would accommodate the six of us. Of course, when I arrive at the location at 6pm on Saturday, I am greeted with a car with only one back seat. That would be great if I only had 3 kids, but I had 5. After another 45-minute wait, I am given a proper automobile. And here we are now, THREE days later and I have been given no information whatsoever on the status of my vehicle. I call into the location where I dropped of my car and I was told that “It was too soon to tell” and that I had “just dropped off my vehicle”. I understand that they have other cars to work on, but how is three-days-ago considered “just dropped off”. So here we are today, and this issue has yet to be resolved. Under any circumstances, I would be livid at the way we were treated. But the real kicker is that throughout this entire process I have yet to hear a single apology. How difficult is it to say: “Sorry for ruining your weekend and dick-ing you around to get your vehicle fixed. Not to mention all the time of yours we wasted. Oh, and for allowing one of our vehicles to nearly kill you and 5 young children 3-days after taking it off of the lot! Gee, we sure are sorry!” At this point, I would love to tell them where they can shove their apology. A word to the wise for those of you considering CarMax, heed my story as a warning. If it happened to me, there is no doubt in my mind that it has happened to someone else and WILL continue to occur!
Orlando the manager was very rude an arrogant, he needs training, and to find a new job, He hsa no personality and could care less about the customer satisfaction... we deserve. The buying process took 8 hours, way to long and unacceptable. My daughter is young and jumped into this bad deal, if it was me I would have walked away from bad deal and service after 1 hour. The employees seem unhappy. Beware this location in duarte, cal.
This is definitely not what we want to hear. I'll make sure your feedback gets passed along to our Customer Relations team so we can look into this fo...r you. ~bridget
