Great service and great selection. Low pressure and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Paperwork took a little long but overall in and out in 3 hours

I have always bought or leased brand-new cars my entire life. I never seriously considered buying a used vehicle until multiple family members raved to me about their personal experiences with CarMax. They have been loyal customers for over 20 years—in fact, one of my relatives has strictly bought his cars from CarMax for the past two decades. Based on their track record, I decided to take the leap and buy a pre-owned Audi Q8. I am so glad I listened to them; the entire experience from sales to service has been absolutely spectacular. On the sales side, Dean Apostolopoulos and Ivan Flores were fantastic to work with. They made the buying process smooth, transparent, and completely stress-free. Where CarMax truly blew me away, though, was the post-sale service. When the vehicle needed a few standard wear-and-tear items addressed under the warranty period, my service advisor, Muhammad "Moe" Chattha, completely knocked it out of the park. Moe is a true professional in every sense of the word. His attention to detail is incredible, and his communication was exceptional—keeping me updated frequently and clearly every step of the way while the car was in the shop. He went completely above and beyond, even offering to personally drive the vehicle over to the local Audi Exchange dealer if any manufacturer-specific issues arose. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I got incredibly lucky with this Audi Q8, but more importantly, I found a team that truly cares about the customer after the paperwork is signed. My family was 100% right about CarMax. They have earned a customer for life!

I can’t say enough about the sales person who helped me Jerry Dawkins. Not only did he make the process straightforward and easy, he helped me get back thousands of dollars from my insurance company that coved my new cars taxes and title transfer.

I was very pleased with the service I received from my salespeople Jay and Carlos. Jay helped me transfer a car in that I had found online at a Carmax from Southern Illinois, and Carlos was able to complete all the paperwork for the sale, even when there were complications completing a partial loan from a credit union in California. The staff was courteous and helpful at all times.

I bought a car I am happy with. I have been driving it for a few weeks now, and no problems. My salesperson was to my liking, and showed me only cars that I was interested in seeing, and did not try to up-sell me at all. Overall, I had a good experience.

My experience was fair to good — not exactly the best CarMax has to offer, and possibly not the best CarMax overall. I used the express pick-up option, which saved me a significant amount of time. Few things frustrate me more than sitting through a lengthy car negotiation, so this was a genuine selling point. Before signing, I requested a test drive to check for any obvious issues. The car is a plug-in hybrid — and lo and behold, it hadn't been charged. That seems like a basic expectation when selling an electrified vehicle. The account management was a recurring headache. They had incorrect contact information on file for me from the start, and nearly every time I called, the rep had trouble pulling up my account. After the fourth call, I assumed it would have been corrected. It was not. The most frustrating moment came at pick-up. I had paid to ship the car to this location, and when it was ready, they called the wrong number for me. It escalated to a rep telling me they were going to "put it back up for sale" — on a car I had already paid to have shipped. That's a hard thing to walk back from. Would I buy from CarMax again? Maybe.

I was looking for a specific car that was at this CarMax. Problem was that I live in Minnesota, not Chicago and would have to traveling a great distance for a car I had not seen other than in pics, potentially risking wasting a great deal of time and money. I had to trust Jonathan, my salesman, to tell me the condition of the car where the pics could not. He was completely honest and the car was exactly what he said it was. Between Jonathan and Adam, the sales manager i was able to close the deal and drive back to home within an hour. I am completely pleased with the car and 100% satisfied with the dealership. I guess you can trust a car dealership. I did and they did not let me down. Thanks guys.

This review is for the SERVICE department. I purchased my car from Carmax in Summer 2012. I bought the extended warranty. About a month ago I noticed my all wheel drive light turned on and off, randomly. I made an appointment to have them look at it. They advised there would be a $50 diagnosis fee and that repairs should be covered by warranty. Carmax service person told me he would call me by 1:30 that day to advise of the status. At 2:30 I had not heard from him I called. He told me that I needed a part for the all wheel drive light, that the battery was bad, I needed a new serpentine belt and that they would need to diagnose the steering wheel for a squeeky noise. I rented a car. Service person told me he would call me the next day by 9:30am. He didn't call. I called him and he quoted me about $400 for the repairs. I suggested that since I just bought my car I was surprised that it had a bad battery. I agreed to pay the $400 for the repairs. I was told that the part for the AW drive light would take 4 days to receive, but that in t he meantime the other things would get fixed. Had the other things been fixed on the first day, I could have had the car and brought it back when the AWD part was is. I called Carmax to find out if the part for the AWD had arrived They said that one of the employees had gone to a dealership to get the part, but had forgotten!! So back he went apparently to get the part. The few times I tried to call, by the way, I was unable to get through. When I finally did get through, I was always told the tech was unavailable and would call back. He never did. On the day I was scheduled to pick up the car, he told me he would call by 4pm. At 5:30 I had not heard, so I went to Carmax to pick up the car. I was told that the battery and steering wheel were fixed THAT day, meaning that the car sat on the lot for 7 days without being touched!!! So the car was there for a week, I paid for a rental car and they did nothing for the entire week!! While it was being finished, I spoke to the Manager who assured me that this is not how they run their business and they would take care of my fees. I felt a renewed hope that Carmax service would come through. The following day I went to get into the car and found that the driver's side handle on the outside was loose and I was unable to open the car door. I climbed over from the other side, drove back to Carmax wondering why my door was now broken (coincidence?). I drove back to Carmax, they took the car and gave me a loaner. I was able to pick up my car that same evening. I was told a wire was loose, caused by the cold, and that it was fixed. About a week later, another cold day, trying to get back into my car on the drivers side (imagine my nerve), I found the same problem! I climbed in from the other side again. Drove my car to Carmax, and noticed a slight noise coming from my heater if I turned it up high. I mentioned this to the service tech when I dropped my car off. He assured me that it was cold and no diagnosis was needed. A different person called me the next day to tell me that they needed to order a part for the door and that it would be available in two days. I mentioned to the technician that I would like a quote for the rear wiper since I was already there and he told me he would get me a price. Two days later they called to say the car door was fixed. Never did hear about the wiper and what it would cost to repair. I picked up the car after the service center was closed, got into the vehicle finally! Turned on the heater and discovered I now had a helicopter propeller in my car. At least the sound of one. So now the car has to go back-but not to Carmax! I have now looked into other warranty options and decided to go to a different dealership, even if it costs a little more. Honestly, don't do it. Go anywhere else.
