BUYER BEWARE!

Buyer Beware! I purchased a car from this car max and was told it had not been wrecked. When I went to sell the car 2 years later the CAR FAX reported a moderate accident that affected the sale price by a - $3,000 When I called the local car max and the corporate office, I was told "nothing we can do about it!"

Horrible Buying Experience

Horrible Experience!! Had the car shipped in from Georgia. It took 2 days to ship from Georgia to Louisiana which was great. It tool the Carmax dealer 10 days after receiving it to have it ready to view. I show up for my "appointment" and their system is down which means I can not test drive the vehicle. After doing a walk through of the vehicle we noticed dent in the driver rear and scratched tail light. The original pictures when in Georgia showed no flaws what so ever in the Jeep. So, after getting the run around from the salesman we asked for a manager and she confirmed the dent and scratches happened during delivery and they would be fixed. So, 5 days later after not hearing from the salesman I looked on line to see the status of the Jeep and turns out they re-listed the Jeep online without me knowing. So, I had to call the main carmax line again and go through all the procedures to start the guying purchase. I then scheduled a 24 hour test drive that same day. During the test drive period I noticed shaking in the front end and returned to have them look over and to also have the dent and scratched fixed that occurred during delivery. After 2 weeks, I went back to get set up another test drive to see what was fixed. The Dent and scratched were not fixed and then I found damage to the rear bumper and more scratches that occurred while on their lot. After all this I told the saleswoman I was not longer interested and moved on to another dealer. Do not buy a vehicle from this place without looking it over multiple times.

Worst Experience Ever!

This is the worst car buying experience ever! I paid $200 to have the car I wanted transferred to the Baton Rouge location. Per CarMax’s policy, once a car is put on hold or a customer pays to have an out of state vehicle shipped to their closest Carmax, the car is considered sold and taken off the market. They said it could take up to a month to arrive which I understood. Fast forward two weeks, I received a phone call today to inform me not that my car is ready, but they “accidentally” sold it. I headed to the dealership to see what was going on and the manager stated yesterday another customers note was mistakenly put in my account that said I didn’t want the car, so it was put back up for sale. However, that note was from another customer and was suppose to go into their account not mine. The manager lied to me and said the vehicle was sold when it’s actually waiting to be transferred to someone else and wasn't actually sold! The car I paid to have transferred is still at the dealership. How is this legally possible? I’ve been waiting on a phone call to let me know my car was ready which I never received. I never said I didn’t want the car. It was their mistake not mine. Legally, I don’t see how the other person who requested a transfer (on an unavailable vehicle) is entitled to the vehicle and Carmax can' t do anything to fix it.

Selling car? Use strategy.

If you do not have the time / place to sell on your own, CarMax is perfect, BUT a little strategy might get you a better price. During the time before & during your car being appraised, you will be chatted up by an associate. They will ask you if you've checked online sources to get an idea of what the car is worth. It wouldn't hurt to spin this to your advantage. If I had to do it again I'd give them a slightly high target price that I want. They say they don't negotiate, but giving them your target up front might very well get you a higher price. Once they show you the results of the appraisal & price, that's final. You have to take it or leave it. Best of luck.
