Absolute joke.

Absolute joke. Dont even bother trying to work a deal with these clowns. Tried to offer 3-4k below value for trade with snarky attitude. Seemed completely disinterested in actually selling a vehicle. Avoid!

First let me preface this by saying, Billy and Larry are

First let me preface this by saying, Billy and Larry are great salesmen at Nelson Honda. Now the Service Department I can’t say the same thing. I took my car in for a routine oil change and rotation of tires. I was told “all four tires needed to be replaced asap.” I have a 2021 CRV with 24,000 miles on it. I was told at the oil change prior to this one that the tires were in great shape with normal wear. I got up the next day and took the car to a reputable establishment. The owner checked the tires and confirmed these did not need to be changed. I then went back to Nelson’s and spoke to the Service Manager who also looked at the tires and indicated these did not need to be changed and were a five out of ten, meaning have about 50% tire life. I have list complete confidence and trust in this company as I had the exact situation happen with my first Honda I bought at Nelson’s. I was told there were significant improvements made on the Service Department, but I personally don’t see it. I will be going elsewhere where I trust the professionals working on my car! I hope you do the same! Steer clear of this place!

Poor Customer Service

Went to get my Honda HR-V an oil change this afternoon, mind you I called to see what time the service department closed the lady I spoke to said 5:30 pm. I arrived 4:20pm and the guy from the service department asked if he could help me and I said yes, I need an oil change. He told he couldn’t because they take the last appointment at 4:00pm! I literally looked him and said you all do not close until 5:30 pm and it doesn’t take no longer than 20 minutes to do this and they all were standing around doing absolutely nothing!! I took a video of this on my phone, poor customer service and do not recommend them to anyone!!

Nelson Honda will take advange of you

I took our 2015 Honda odyssey van for them to look at and see what the mechanical issues was. The van had 113k miles on at this time. They told me it would cost me 17 thousand dollars to have a new motor put in and 10 thousand for a used motor. To me that was outrageous and down right crooked. So I called a local mechanical shop around where I live and new motor would cost me about 8700 dollars and that's parts and labor. So my wife and I go up to Nelson Honda to see about a trade for something on their lot. We take 2 different test drives and Patty, the Sale Manger, told me they would only give me 2000 for our van. Billy the salesman was courteous and helpful during all this but Patty would not come up on the value of our van, which was valued far above 2k. So my wife and I went up to Gunter Nissan, which i HIGHLY recommend over this place. We told Gunter Nissan up front what was wrong with the vehicle and they gave more than payoff. Then we walked away with a vehicle that day from Gunter Nissian.

NELSON HONDA FRAUD ALERT: JUST DON'T!

Daughter bought a new 22 Honda Civic on March 12, 2022. She saved for over 2 years for a sizable down-payment and has an excellent credit rating. She's the kind of buyer a dealership (should) try very hard to make a repeat customer! The final cost included an extra $2,000 for “market issues” (due to a severe lack of available cars). First contacted Honda Corp to make a complaint due to damage I realized a few days after sale. They finally denied a month later, offering absolutely no help. I recommend buying a Nissan: Nissan Corporation customer service is excellent. Nelson Honda has also offered no resolution. After posting the car damage issue on Facebook, I received a quick reply that Nelson Honda had indeed let damaged goods off the dealership before. A few hours after my post, Tabatha Miller replied that she also had a similar issue with Nelson Honda. She bought a new car. The next day, she also found a substantial dent on the vehicle that they did not see that night before! One of the biggest red flags from the Nelson Honda experience is the financial rep who stated how stressful his job often is. Did he know the car was damaged and they were passing it off to a first-time buyer?! During the contract signing explained what the “arbitration clause” meant: that I “could not sue Nelson Honda.” I wondered why would a dealership would include this into the contract unless they had been sued repeatedly before (for valid reasons). Or if they knew they were now pushing out damaged goods, desperate to make any sale. And with only 2 or 3 new cars available on the lot, many dealerships are desperate! Did Nelson Honda want to waste precious time by actually fixing this damaged vehicle? No, they pushed it off the lot as is. For shame! Finally, I received 2 estimates from 2 body shops. The (impartial) one, when asked to find the damage as a customer would, a foot away, looking straight on, he COULD NOT FIND IT, even as he went around the car, until I instructed him to look at an angle on the side of the damage. Then he was amazed at the amount of damage a car with only 50 miles had. Proof that a customer would not see what was seen a few days after the sale. We contend damage was pre-sale, during transit as the impartial estimator strongly feels it is. This car will be a constant reminder of how we were duped into buying a damaged car. As a final insult, the owner, Barry Nelson refused to even respond to our complaint sent to the Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealership Board. He may feel untouchable with his monopoly on the local car dealerships. I strongly suggest prospective new car buyers go out of town. One reason we staying in town was to support our local economy. However, I do NOT recommend any of the dealerships with The Nelson Group. Buyer BEWARE.

Dealer response

Hello Melody, I have already responded to the negative reviews that you have placed on Google, Facebook and the BBB. I will now post the same reply on Cars.com. I am sorry that your daughter's vehicle has been damaged but I can assure you that it happened after the purchase. We do a detailed post delivery inspection on every vehicle received and the damage that you describe was absolutely not present. Your test drove the car two times with two separate sales people. You were along for all of these test drives so a minimum of four different people closely reviewed the vehicle multiple times while the vehicle was on the lot. The damaged portrayed in the pictures that you provided would have been seen easily from a distance. There is no way that everyone would miss the damage. You drove the Civic home and had it for two days before returning to the lot and explaining that we sold you a damaged car. You are bringing up points that are contained on every contract of a vehicle sold in the state of Virginia. The arbitration clause is a state law and has nothing to do with Nelson Honda. You had every opportunity to walk away from this car deal. You were aware of the sale price when you left on Friday after test driving the car. You retuned Saturday for a second test drive before deciding to purchase the car. There is no way that the damage you claim was on the car was missed by multiple people multiple times.

I have purchased 4 Hondas from this dealership, and they have always been professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. Never pushy or rude. In September of this year, Billy Marshall sold me an Insight, and I love the car! Mr Marshall was very pleasant and stayed with my husband and I way past closing in order to complete the deal. He never acted annoyed or impatient. I returned later to go over all of the bells and whistles on the car. He took his time with me and gave a thorough explanation for all the electronic gizmos on the car. I also want to compliment Beth and everyone else I have worked with in the service department. They are always courteous and professional. This is the first dealership I go to when looking for a new vehicle. They have never let me down!
