I was surprised how fast and easy it was to purchase the car. I bought it one day and picked it up the next day.

I recently had a disappointing experience with CarMax that I feel compelled to share. I brought my car in, which the Kelly Blue Book valued at over $12,500, but to my shock, they offered me just $8,400. I worked directly with the manager, Kevin Hough, who was unfriendly, cold, and rigid throughout the process. I understand that CarMax has a no-negotiation policy, but there were glaring errors in their assessment of my vehicle. I even showed them on their website that they were selling comparable cars with similar mileage for nearly double what they were offering me—some listed for as much as $15,000. When I requested to open CarMax's site together and review the assessment, both the staff and Kevin flatly refused to address my concerns. Instead of engaging in a constructive conversation, they kept down-talking me, emphasizing how much experience their company has and how large they are. To add to my frustration, I sat in the waiting room for hours, feeling ignored and undervalued. I was in desperate need to sell my car, and the lack of support and understanding from the CarMax team made the experience even more frustrating. It felt like they didn't care about my situation at all. I expected a more customer-focused approach, especially given the significant difference in the valuation. I cannot recommend CarMax based on my experience and will be looking elsewhere in the future.

I found a car in NY, but it was reserved, so they said chose another car, and there was one in Florida. They said it could not be shipped because it had an electronic title - which is not true. Then it said it could be shipped for $999, then later shipping was $1,299. Then the NY car became available again and I paid for it to be shipped ($99) to MA. I called up and they said they could not find it in the system but they would get back to me - they did not. I called up again and they said the car was reserved by another customer and the shipping had been 'accidentally' cancelled - and I should look for a different car. They said shipping was usually non-refundable, but they would make an exception. It feels like games were being played to the benefit of CarMax and against what they advertise as a great buying experience - in the end it feels like the typical sleazy used car buying experience and not a new way to buy a vehicle.- not recommended.

I went in Carnax thinking it would be a smooth transaction like the 2 prior times I went in before but it was not. They sent me home with the wrong car and called me while I was driving to tell me I had the wrong car and I needed to bring it back. I go back and get the car I was suppose to get and pull out to the parking lot to have problems with the AC and a grinding noise. Mind you these vehicles are suppose to be checked before going to the customer. Then after to leave the car there for them to fix it and drive a loaner car for a week. Which the car sat in my parking lot most of the time due to me anxiety and something happening to it. Then decided to go with a different sic that took days to get there from Norwood and the car wasn’t didn’t even go through the process of getting checked even though the tracing send they were working on it. No one called me to keep me updated. I had to call multiple times and talk to different people each times. I was so upset. I decided to even call cooperate today. All this in one week should have not taken place and then give me a a older suv that I have to make bigger payments in. Friggin ridiculous!! I had maybe like 2 nice people I dealt with. There no haggle price is a joke since they can give you a $100 gift card for your trouble but not do anything else.

I had a good experience. Traded in my old car and bought a used Honda. Been driving it for around two years no problem. Big fan of CarMax.

I had a car transferred from another location. I was told it would take 3-4 days to come in. After a week, I called, and the general (central/non-location specific) customer service rep was able to confirm the car had come in several days before. She couldn't see why I hadn't received a call to come in, but said that when that happens the plate usually hasn't transferred dealerships yet or the car hasn't passed inspection upon arrival. This felt reasonable, so I didn't put too much thought into it. Now, after FOUR weeks, I still haven't gotten a call from CarMax to get the car, and trying to call customer service just means I still on hold for 2 hours before I give up and hang up the phone. I know a lot of people who have shopped at other locations and had great experiences, which makes me think it's this particular CarMax that's a problem. I'm pretty convinced at this point that the car was sold out from under me, and I'm moving on to other cars at other dealships, but it felt like it was worth warning others against this location.

They lowballed me on my trade and were $3000 overpriced on a car I wanted to buy. This is based on other cars with same model/age/mileage/features that were available nearby at other dealerships. They weren’t willing to discuss price at all. I wouldn’t mind skipping the negotiations if they were priced fairly, but they weren’t.
