About our dealership

This seller has been on Cars.com since April 2018.
Neptune Auto Sales in Virginia Beach, VA, treats the needs of each customer like they are family. For twenty years, I worked in a large franchise dealership, working endless hours, and spending less and less time at home. I knew there had to be a better way of life and a better way to serve customers. In 2018 we, as a family, opened up Neptune Auto Sales and our dream began. We wanted to offer the best customer experience in a clean and friendly environment. We also wanted a place where our customers could come with the whole family and feel comfortable during their buying journey.

I can't thank you enough for the great service I received when purchasing a car for my daughter. Phil was amazing in helping her pick out the car she loves and that I could afford. She loves her new ride! Thank you, Neptune Auto Sales,

We have a longer review in other places such as the BBB but had to edit it to fit within the constraints of Yelp. We purchased a used vehicle from Neptune Auto Sales that due to the problems with the vehicle should have never passed a Virginia inspection. On June 1st, we purchased a used truck from Neptune Auto Sales. There were things that were agreed upon by both parties to be fixed (the locks, back window, etc.) and we were told that we could bring the vehicle back once the parts were received. We drove the truck home that night and when we awoke there was a huge fluid leak on our driveway. We called Neptune and they said to return it and they would take a look at it. They took it to their mechanic, and we were told it was the driveshaft leaking and they agreed to fix it. Long story short, they had the vehicle from June 2nd when we returned it until July 23rd, supposedly fixing it. When we got it back on July 23rd, it was still leaking fluids, so we took it to Greenbrier Dodge to diagnose it. They did a full inspection and came back with a list of several things wrong with the vehicle. Two of the things were not even supposed to allow it to pass an inspection, which it had supposedly passed on May 23rd, a week before we purchased the vehicle. The complete list of things wrong were: 1) Multiple plugs in sidewall of tire (should have failed inspection), 2) Exhaust Manifold Gaskets were leaking (should have failed inspection), 3) the A/C Condenser was leaking and needed replacement (and apparently had recently been refilled), 4) The Heater Core and Thermostat were bad and needed replacement, 5) the Intake Seals/ Solenoids/ Wiring Harness were all bad and needed replacement, and 6) the reason that the truck constantly was leaking fluids was because it had the wrong size Drive Shaft installed and the transmission seal was damaged (this is what had taken over a month to fix). We contacted Neptune again and let them know and they told us to return the truck and they would look at it. We purchased the vehicle for around $13000 and now we were told we would have to put an additional $6000 into repairs into it after only having the vehicle in our possession for 5 days. We talked to Lannin, the owner, and he asked what we wanted. My wife said she wanted a reliable vehicle but since this one was obviously not it, could he undo the deal or offer a replacement to which he interrupted not to waste her breath. He offered to pay for the fluid leak ($621) and replace the tire but said we could not post a negative review about him online if he did so. He also said to call the state troopers on the mechanics that did the vehicle inspection because that was not his fault. Perhaps the most disturbing thing Lannin said, was "Don't you think you're at fault as well, I mean, it is a used car." I told him at the time that this was a learning experience, but looking back on it, the ONLY fault that my family can take in this purchase, is trusting Neptune Auto Sales. When you purchase a vehicle (even a used vehicle) you expect the dealership (or used car salesman in this case) to do their due diligence in making sure that their product is worthy to be sold. We also took the vehicle to the mechanics that did the inspection on the vehicle prior to us purchasing it, and they said that there was no way that they would have passed that vehicle with an exhaust leak and plugged sidewall tires. Lannin did offer to pay the 1st month's car payment and fix the leak, even though he did tell us that he was doing so out of the kindness of his own heart because he was not required to. The only positive in this entire situation was the salesman Phillip. He always tried his best to help my wife and usually responded to her right away, but sadly he was only able to do so much in his position. This review is not to gain any sort of revenge, but instead we believe that God allowed this to happen to us because it will not destroy us, and perhaps can help others.

I purchased a car from here for my mom just last night. I asked Phillip if I could take the car up the street to Firestone to get it checked out. He had no problem letting me do so. When I got back, we worked out a reasonable deal. The whole process was easy, no-pressure and fast. I feel confident that I got a good deal.

I made a mistake on another site for a negative review when it was my miss understanding. I purchased a F150 from Philip and the process was excellent. When my temp tags expired I thought it was something on their part after the DMV told me different. Well When I talked to them- Jezz I was stupid. they had my plates. I forgot They said they would get them. Anyways my mistake and I would recommend them to anyone.

I am well aware of shady dealerships, well acquainted with salesmen who aren't making alot off a sale so they don't go out of their way. Not the case with Philip at Neptune. He stayed well after hours to assist us in buying a car for my sister out of state which is a slightly time consuming ordeal. its been a true pleasure doing business with him. And the case exceeds the expectations of what we had hoped to get in her price range. Very satisfied and highly recommend!!

My wife's 2002 Pathfinder after 258,000+ finally went down. Went to Neptune Motors. Nice selection, clean, low miles, asking prices in line. Phillip helped us that day. We left and went to a couple of other places and then went back and saw Phillip again. We bought a great 2006 Toyota Highlander from Neptune. Very happy. Good guys ... Lannin and Philip and a good dealership.
