2021 Mazda CX-5

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Consumer Reports have released their annual list of recommended vehicles for teens, and the 2024 list offers more safety for less, as used- and new-car prices stabilize.

All 2022 Mazda CX-5 trims now come with standard all-wheel drive. Other changes include revised front and rear styling and tweaks to the seats, suspension, steering and transmission.

Only one out of 20 small SUVs tested in its new side-impact test earned a good rating, the agency’s highest score: the 2021 Mazda CX-5.

The CX-50 will be the first new SUV to arrive in the U.S., followed by the larger CX-70 and CX-90, all set to arrive by 2023.

For 2022, Mazda has refreshed the CX-5 to potentially address an overly firm ride, questionable seat comfort and a noisy engine.

The current cream of Mazda’s engine crop is the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder available in nearly every vehicle Mazda makes and standard in one, the CX-9.
