Beautiful vehicle, Terrible mileage

MANY improvements over our 2017 Outback Touring, but acceleration is (still) "uneven", and center console storage is half. Recently drove a 2019 Outback Touring with 3.6R engine for 600 miles.......... MUCH smoother engine performance. Four tanks of gas so far in the new Outback, and have yet to average 23 mpg!!!

Great, versatile car.

The Outback is a great car for the outdoorsman but equally good on the expressway or around town. Great tech, comfortable, Subaru is a company with a conscience.

Better than the prior years.

My 3rd Outback since 2016, I like this one best. The new platform feels more comfortable and cabin noise is less than before. The Eyesight system's Lane-centering has been improved and no longer 'ping pongs'. The steering assist is scary good at following the lane even through curves. One annoying difference from prior years is the Auto Engine shut-off when stopped at a traffic light. It is on by default and can't be permanently turned off.

Best bang for your buck

Changed from a 2015 limited outback to the totality new 2020 outback touring xt. Huge difference in quietness on the highway 2020 much less noise. The new turbo has much more power for passing mpg 27 on a new not broken in motor. The Napa leather seats are very comfortable and the cooling as well as heating is also an improvement. Biggest negative was moving the 12 volt outlet in the glove box, not good for cameras or radar detectors. My other car is an 2018 Audi S5 Sportback and there are many things such as auto high beams and LED headlights that are similar to the Audi at $15 to $20 thousand less.

Not your typical SUV!

So after months of researching what was out there that would meet my daily driving, family hauling and outdoor enthusiast needs, I eventually ruled out the competition and settled on the newly redesigned, 2020 Subaru Outback. The new Outback is really in a class by itself. Not really an SUV . Not really a CUV. What is it? It's lifted AWD Wagon. That’s not just semantics either. The 2020 Outbacks unique design gives the vehicle SUV capabilities while retaining car like driving qualities. Specifically, you get lower seating height (for ease of entry), lower center of gravity (for improved handling with less body roll) and improved driver position( for comfort and increased visibility.) The result is that the new design gives a quiet ,comfortable yet more responsive feel than any SUV/CUV I could find in its size and price range ( That includes earlier generation Outbacks as well.) It has excellent offroad and bad weather capabilities with 8.7” of ground clearance and class leading AWD system. (It's actually better in snow than my last 4wd pick-up! ) Add in the newly available Turbocharged engine, as well as a long list of tech features in the Limited /Touring XT models and I found something functional AND really fun to drive. Bottom line: I looked at all the small and midsize SUV&CUV competition in the $30-$40K range and could not find anything that produced this level of overall driver experience and performance. I highly recommend anyone looking at small to mid sized AWD vehicles from Toyota, Ford , Mazda,Chevy or Honda take a test drive in the new bigger, faster and more capable than ever before 2020 Outback XT. I was surprised on how much I liked it and suspect others will too.

Best body style & safety features

This is the safest vehicle we have owned. Easy to maneuver, plenty of leg room and cargo space. Easy to get on and out of. The best value.

Couldn't get rid of it fast enough

We purchased our 2020 Subaru Outback XT November 2nd and within a week we were totally unhappy with it. This was our first Subaru. We liked the size and it was comfortable, however the things we disliked about it were so extreme we couldnt live with it. When we test drove it, the Auto Stop/Start must have been disengaged by the salesman; it wasn't until the drive home that we noticed it working. (And this was after a 6 hour sales experience - beware of all the add ons they throw at you). This car was a nightmare. Talk about over doing the technology! The "safety features" are counter intuitive, they are so distracting. Climate controls are small and hard to set. You must disengage the Auto Start/Stop every time you restart the car; this requires 3 buttons. The feature is inconsistent and really clunky. The car jerks back on when your foot is still on the brake, or worse, the engine will shut off when you start to accelerate. Not every time, of course, but enough to be alarming. We kept the car for a month, took an $8000 hit on it, but we were so disgusted with the thing we didn't even care, we just wanted out of it. Will never buy a Subaru again.

Loving my Subaru

We are in the process of converting our whole family from Toyotas to Subarus. The value, reliability, security, and safety sells itself. This is our third Subaru from Burke and Dave Hand.

All the bells and whistles

Purchased this 2020 Outback vehicle two weeks ago and am very impressed with everything so far with the exception of the auto engine stop - restart when I stop at a traffic light. This is designed to save fuel. However, to disengage this feature, you need to press a button each time you initially start the vehicle. Subaru has otherwise produced an SUV with many excellent features including safety electronic and camera items.

Going back to Subaru - great improvements for 2020

I went to look at a 2019 on the lot, but bought the 2020 in the showroom. The seats are bigger and more substantial/comfortable, which as a large guy I appreciate and need.
