I love my Audi!
I have owned my A4 since it was 3 years old in 2004. I had an extended warranty with mine from a certified Audi dealer and did take it in for a few different things, nothing major. I have been very happy with it and it is a blast to drive. I actually lost control of it going around a turn on a snowy road last year, I gave it a little gas and she pulled right out of the skid it was in with the Quattro... I was so impressed. These are safety minded vehicles and that is the whole reason I ended up buying one. I was having a child and I didn't want to put her in a tin can on wheels.

2001 Audi 1.8T
I agree with a lot of previous previews. I bought this car a couple of years ago and owned it for about 2 years. It came with an Audi Extended Warranty which was a good thing because it was in the shop alot! As soon as the warranty ended I put that car up for sale immediately. I simply could not afford to keep fixing and fixing. Ball joints, 3 of the electric windows, sunroof module, cv joints, vacuum leak, some interior pieces, and so on and so on. I will say they offered some of the best service I have ever dealt with and even though I had a $50.00 deductible every time it went into the shop, it was starting to become very inconvenient and I was starting to get mad. Loved the car but HAD to sell it, I simply could not afford it. Reviewing the 2004 A4 and hoping those are a better product. I would only buy another Audi WITH the extended warranty.

Great car, exceptional handling, Fun to Drive
I am the original owner of a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro. I was initially struck by the great handling and perfect gear ratio in the A4's manual transmission. It is an exciting car to drive and handles curves like a dream with the AWD and traction control features. The 17" wheels with performance tires help even more. Ergonomics of the interior are excellent for the driver and front seat passenger. Rear leg room is scant. The only design flaw is the retractable cup holder in the dash. People who want acceleration excitement should get a car with a 6-cylinder or larger engine. The 1.8T Audi A4 is perfectly balanced to provide good acceleration and, more importantly, good gas mileage. My overall mileage is generally 27mpg or more in a mix of city and highway driving. I have had few of the repair problems cited by other reviewers. I replaced brakes at about 60K, and timing belt at 90K (cost was $1,400 -- a cost far less than other reviewers who perhaps waited too long). I have enjoyed this car every day of the almost 8 years I've owned it. Having maintained it according to schedule and fixed repairs promptly, the A4 has never let me down. I travel extensively for work and have rented dozens of mid-size cars....none compare favorably with the A4. I can't wait to get home and drive my own car!

Stylish and Fun to Drive
I've had this car for eight years now, so far no complaints. Very reliable and easy to own. I am getting another Audi later this year because I've been happy with this car.

Most unreliable car I have ever owned
First off let me say that my 2001 Audi A4 Quatro is a fun car to drive and handles well and something I feel very safe in with all wheel drive, 8 airbags, electronic slip protection and anti lock brakes. Unfortunately however it is the absolutely most UNRELIABLE vehicle I have ever owned. I have done almost all the service at the dealer according to schedule and this car has given me nothing but headaches. Starting at 42k just outside the warranty I had the Cam Adjuster go bad which cost me well over $1200 to replace. Shortly thereafter I had the led's on the entire dashboard go bad. Another $1200 down the drain. Then every 3-5k miles some random electrical sensor would go bad which cost another $150-$350 for each occurrence. Now the cherry to top things off my timing belt at just over 77k has broken when the manufacturer recommends replacing this at 120K. Funny how on my tow ride to the auto shop the tow truck driver commented to me how "oh yeah you have an Audi....we tow lots of these" This will be my first and last Audi. What a pile of junk

Lovely Ride "Eh" Interior Design
Our 2001 Audi A4 has been a pleasure to drive since we bought it used in 2002. It handles like butta' on Colorado's mountain roads wet or dry, we feel very safe in our Audi and drive with confidence in the rain or snow. It's extremely comfortable, making road trips a cakewalk with the CD blasting and cruise control for-the-win. Our only big complaint is that the cup holder is positioned above the dashboard panel right above the stereo and temperature controls so drips fall directly onto the buttons. So if/when a sugary drink spills in August and you don't clean it up right away *cough* my husband *cough*, the control buttons will forever be stuck and you can forget about getting the ashtray open again because it's the kind you push on to get it to open. Other than that, the Audi A4 is a great car with excellent power, handling, and comfort. And if you drive it gently, a tank of gas lasts a week or so.

2 Audi's and Never Again
I have owned an A6 and an A4 and they are some of the worst cars I have ever owned. My A4 has cost me more than its worth at this point and the A6 was the same way. I do have to say that it is a reliable car, it has never not started, even on the coldest days of the year and I have never gotten stuck in the snow, but the cost to own this car is unbelievable. I swear, every time I go to the dealership they find something else to break. I am at the dealership getting something fixed at least every other month. Don't buy this car.

SNOW MONSTER
I have a 01.5 A4 Quattro. The 1.8t engine requires close attention to maintenance. Oil must be changed every 3k miles with full synthetic and it would be a good idea to have the timing belt and water pump replaced every 75k miles; if the belt breaks, you will more than likely bend valves and have to get a new cylinder head. Other than that, it's pretty reliable. The interior is comfortable with nice styling and controls. The exterior has a nice European touch to it and stands out from most other sedans. The power from the factory is alright, but nothing to brag about (170chp/166ctq). I replaced the turbo with a slightly larger K04 turbo and added an exhaust with a few other goodies to make around 245chp/275ctq. With the added power and quattro, it is now a whole other animal. Launching it is a blast, as is flying around parking lots in the snow. Never got the car stuck in snow.. even when there was 14" on the ground. It's more fun to drive than my 07 BMW Z4 3.0i.

After 170,000 only one expensive repair
I didn't change the timing belt when I was supposed to. It broke at 160,000 miles cost me almost $3,000. It doesn't exactly fit my standards as a sports car but I love the style and sporty look. I get frustrated because I am not able to smoke other nameless cars at red lights. My A4 doesn't have any get up and go. maybe its the miles.

The Best car I've ever owned
I've owned over ten cars since I got my license, and the 2001 Audi A4 is the most attractive, best handling car I've ever driven. I've driven mustangs, bmws, acuras, camaros, SUVs and saturns. It's a combination of great looks, unbelievable power and performance, and all-wheel drive! How can you go wrong?
