Good, Solid Subcompact/Compact SUV

After 10 days of ownership, here are my thoughts on my Encore GX Select: It is a good, solid entry in the subcompact/compact SUV category. The emphasis is more on "luxury" as opposed to "sportiness." I find the performance more than adequate (especially considering it is only a 1.2L 3-cylinder engine) and handling and ride comfort are good. The start/stop feature is unobtrusive the majority of the time. The seats are a bit flat and relatively narrow but comfortable (long drive comfort still to be determined). Vision is good in all directions. Minor complaints: the "toggle" switches on the steering wheel for cruise control and scrolling the dashboard menus are not as easy to use as separate "up/down" buttons and feel cheap. I initially found the operation of the center stack a bit confusing, especially compared to the standard Chrysler UConnect I am very familiar with or even the one in my '17 Chevy Cruze Premier. The rear seats don't fold down completely flat.

Fifth Buick Purchased

I love the Buick brand and this is my second Encore. It is a very smooth ride and the interior is roomy and comfortable. Engine is quiet and love the extra large sunroof.

First new car purchase.

I downgraded from my 2007 Volvo XC90 to this vehicle. For the price range, the amenities are unmatched in the class. Most vehicles in the compact SUV market make you pay for things like lane departure warning and auto start/stop. My only concern is with ling term reliability. On day 2 of ownership it threw a check engine light. The dealership couldn’t isolate the issue but said it was due to my camshaft. Just unsettling to experience in a car you paid that much money for and drove less than 24hrs. And I recommend avoiding the tan interior. I’m already having to use tide pens on my tan interior because people’s new jeans leave marks on the fabric.

Encore GX Is Great with Some Issues

I've owned the GX for about 3 weeks now-700 miles so far. There's lots to like but there but there are some weaknesses to be addressed. 1. Comfortable 2. Strong Acceleration 3. Great looks 4. Regular gas 5. Roomy back seat for a subcompact SUV 6. Great safety features 7. Excellent native nav system 8. Smooth shifting transmission 9. Bright headlights Concerns/Issues 1. City MPG is only about 24 mpg...so far 2. Infotainment system will not receive/play text messages on Android phones (tried a Pixel 3a and Galaxy S10) - Dealer acknowledges the issue. you can only see texts thru Android Auto if phone is connected by USB . This is really annoying! 3. Lane departure warning doesn't work at speeds below 37-38 mph - dealer acknowledges this is an issue. This is a safety concern! 4. No padding in the door pockets-annoying as things slide around. 5. No air vent in the rear seat area Some other thoughts - handling is secure but not as "tight" as the Mazda CX30 which I test drove. You can turn off the start/stop feature though it’s unobtrusive to me. Would have been nice if there was an auto-hold feature. You can also shut off the AWD. The instrument cluster is awkward. Lots of scrolling if you want to monitor things like MPG, range, speed limits-they're all on different screens. Overall I'm pleased but I do expect Buick to address the texting and lane departure warning issues. Dealer is "researching" issues since this such a new model.

Very good performer

Test drove the 1.2 L and 1.3 L and both were CVT’s. The pick up was good and better than most of the so-called professional reviewer‘s that said it was lacking for pick up. They were wrong. Guessing that they did not take a test drive in the new offering. I test drove it on the freeway and long freeway on-ramps and I have absolutely no problem in acceleration and passing other vehicles quickly. The interior was pleasant with the leather interior. Happy that Buick included an Off switch for the Start/Stop Engine function. Sound insulation was very good with very little wind and road noise though they are present. The CVT transmission was smooth and I had absolutely no complaints Though Long-term with the CVT is unknown at this time. Now have the 1.3 L sports model on order with no reservations in my decision.

CVT tranny mated with1.3 liter as excellent pickup

This is excellent blend of comfort, styling, bang for the buck, with many safety features standard. I leased a 2016 Encore previously and enjoyed it, this car is a step up, longer, slightly lower, more sporty. Although rated 157 hp, CVT makes it feel more like 200
