our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Cadillac XT4?

The Cadillac XT4 is a small, five-seat luxury SUV that competes with the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Volvo XC40. All XT4s are powered by a 235-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are available, as is an adaptive suspension.

I purchased this car last year and the first few months everything was perfect. Then I noticed it began to shift gears roughly, now it feels like everytime I accelerate (even from stopped) the transmission slips. The electrical system is trash!! I’m paying for the usage of the MyCadillac App and WiFi and have not been able to use for the past month. OnStar won’t even connect through the car. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times and still nothing. When using Apple Car Play, mid-song it will switch to a completely different song on a different playlist. Pre-programmed drivers seat and mirrors won’t even adjust properly when I get in the car!! Super frustrating to say the least. Very disappointing for my first experience with Cadillac and a Premium Luxury one at that.

Premium Luxury - I've had for 2 years now, been in the shop 4 times. Almost at 30k miles. Seat massager motor went out and it had an internal failure of front driver side axel. Rear lift gate was out of alignment, just all seems kinds of cheaply made. I imagine that's why this model is coming to an end soon. Transmission appears to be slipping, and gas mileage sux. For the price, go for a Lexus.

  • My wife and I enjoy our XT4 and we have drive it over

My wife and I enjoy our XT4 and we have drive it over 19,000 miles in 11 months. People complaining about issues apparently didn’t test drive one before they purchased other wise they shouldn’t be complaining. Performance 8 Comfort. 8 Quality. 7 Exterior finish 9 Interior 8 Ride. 7 Quietness. 8 Nimbleness. 8 Handling. 7 Rear seat room 6 Over all for the value it’s a very nice car. The sunroof had a rattle - dealer repaired a loose clip - fixed - - dealership replaced its battery it seemed weak - replaced with a more powerful one. We have at times spent 7-8 hours highway driving found it very comfortable and quiet. Headlights light of the road ahead very good. In all a very good car. Sounds like some owners should have driven one more before purchasing one or maybe purchased a larger model. We have owned many much more expensive vehicles and this one is in the top ones we have owned. We are in our 70’s so its smaller size is great for getting around. We haven’t had any issues like their complaining about. We will purchase another one possibly a 2025 model.

  • Rattles here rattles there rattles everywhere

We call it a rattle box. 7 times at the dealer for rattle noises still rattling. Dealer has been great trying to solve the rattles but they keep coming back. The plastic part at the bottom of the doors is impossible to clean, looks dirty black all the time. This caddy is a big disappointment. I think the suspension is so hard it doesn’t help the rattles.

  • Huge disappointment,

My wife and I purchase a “premier edition” 2023 XT4 demo with 5000 miles, never registered. After the first week, we were disappointed. No heated seats, rattle in the roof on the highway, a ton of road noise on the highway and a rough ‘thud’ riding suspension. Add the plastic oil pan, cheap looking vinyl seats and a black plastic interior that shows every scratch and is not made for areas of high wear (like the rocker panel area where your foot scuffs getting in and out of the car. I feel like we should have bought a Kia or Hyundai..or perhaps that’s just what we did? This doesn’t feel like a Cadillac, that’s for sure!

  • Love my Cadillac XT4

I love my XT4 I owned a XT5 before and loved that as well. The only thing is I wished they would make adaptive cruise a standard feature on all especially since it has everything else. I know the car companies do that to bump the price however I believe it should be on all, for safety.

  • Don’t buy an Xt4

Not happy with this car at all, it feels like the transmission is slipping, I have had it in the shop at least 10 times and told the same thing “ this is how the car preforms, there is nothing wrong with it”. I do have to say my dealership has been great but until they find something wrong I am stuck with it Thank goodness it’s a lease!

  • Don't buy it

same as other reviews, the car sputters and jerks as if its got bad fuel or a bad transmission. The dealership acknowledges the problem but can't fix it because there's no "check engine" light to show them whats wrong. I'm going to take it in this weekend for a trade. It's undrivable compared to my nice smooth Volvo.

  • Cadillac is ruining its name a little more every

Driving down road doing speed limit on bumpy road my head should not be hitting the headliner when I’m 5’4. Only 9k miles on car. So brand new 23 off the show room floor. When hitting a pothole- its hits realllly hard and then fishtails while I fly up out of my seat and hit the headliner. Kinda like a truly expensive ride at the fair. Dealership said this is normal. Whaaaaaaaat? Taking it in now because the check engine light is on and the air is blowing warm. Breaks might be squeeling too. Are these ppl on crack? Stereo is xxxxty also. Very unempressed.
