Not Good, Not Bad
A Dodge Neon in disguise.. Works good at first but breaks down later... Bought my 2001 PT Cruiser Limited Edition new in 2001. It had a lot of good features like leather seats, moon roof, AC, power everything, CD, etc. Interior/exterior nice. Had no major problems the first 3 years and drove well.. but after a while it slowly started having more problems. Got bad gas mileage. Handling was not so good and very sensitive. Head gasket blown and was expensive to repair. Brakes wore easily. Acceleration was bad at times. Had trouble starting in the morning sometimes. Eventually kept having more problems with this car. Got tired of it and had to sell it with 91K miles on it. Sold it to a dealer, got low resell value on it. I wouldn't really recommend this car unless your only going to use it a for a few years. Its not so great overall.

One of the Best "RETRO" wagons around!
Where to begin...? Bought My 2001 PT Cruiser Limited Edition (bright silver metallic) used in 2004 with 26,000 miles on the odometer. Fully loaded with all Limited level equipment (leather, full power, tilt, cruise, AC, moonroof, alloys and more!), the heated front seats, auto trans, "ultimate" stereo and optional painted alloy wheels. Have made MANY mods over the years - adding performace options (cold air/cone filter, higher performance wheels & tires and more) - adding visual "styling" aids (woodie kit, chrome trim, portholes, LEDs and strobes).... One of the great things about the PT Cruiser is the built in community of owners and enthusiasts. Performance is good - a bit slow at times - and the gas mileage isn't great - especially for a small car. But at over 3200 pounds (yes, the weight of a mini-van), what can you expect. No trouble with the car - AT ALL - and now have over 86K miles! Only maintenance work done! That's over 60K miles of TROUBLE FREE driving!!! Brakes tend to wear quickly - again, 3200 lbs of car - but not horribly. A bit slow off the line - high-rev powerband and heavy weight - make the performance only mediocre. But the looks we get!!! OH, and you can personalize the car to almost no end - chrome, wood, flames, stripes, wheels, trim - you name it! Retro to modern sportster... GO FOR IT! PS - we've got 3 in the family - 2 01 PTs and an 02 PT - all are great!!!

Okay car
This car was purchased in 2005 as my older brother's first car for $14,000 with only 33,000 miles on it. Since then he has gone to college and it is now mine. In regards to power, I have found the response from the accelerator somewhat lacking power in gears 1 and 2, but as soon as it kicks into 3rd, it picks up. The throttle is also slightly delayed occasionally. The exterior construction is pretty durable as there are few dents on the car, however i have noticed the car to scratch more easily than either of my parent's cars. Interior construction is rather cheap as most of the cosmetic pieces are made of plastic, and very few of metal. For the limited edition, which I have, there are not as many "foo foos" as I would expect. The heated, power seats and the CD changer were optional with the limited edition, and my car is not equipped with either of them. The leather wrapped steering wheel is a plus, as are the heated side mirrors and they have come in handy with our cold North Carolina winters (yeah right). Overall, the car has stood up quite a bit between high school football-tailgating, and camping trips to both the beach and the mountains, so i give it a 3.5 for the value of the car because it stands up to most my family can throw at it, and it was a steal of a purchase.

Waste of your money
Attempt at making a sporty looking family car failed terribly once you sit behind the wheel. I found that the handling was overly touchy and it was over all a vert unconfertable ride. Once you add the fact that its got AWFUL gas milage its easy to realize that this car is not worth your time and money.

Great car overall
I've owned this car for a few years now, and it has never let me down as far as mechanical quality goes, and its reliability is impressive. I'm also a college student, and it has proven to be invaluable in helping me move to and from school. I don't think I can say enough about how great it is that you can fit so much into this "small" car. It definetely has the soul of an SUV in the body of a sedan. The only disappointing factor of the PT Cruiser is its very low fuel efficiency. It usually gets less than 20mpg in the city. Although I have had it get up to 30mpg on the highway. But as far as city driving goes, this car can be expensive to fill up. Overall, this is a great car, especially if you do more commuting than city driving, and you want the cargo room without buying a huge SUV.

Not a Bad Car
Bought a Limited new and driven to 137k. Air conditioning is going out now, and the switch to the moon roof has a short in it that makes it a pain to open and close. Happened at about 85-90k and wasn't covered by warranty. Throttle response is not good, at all. Decent gas mileage and easy to see over the hood, which is useful if you're short or just have really poor depth perception.

Fun Car
If only it were a V-6. Turning radius should be improved as well as radio reception. Nice car for the money.

Gets you from A to B looking good.
It's a very good car. Not the car to get if you want to get somewhere fast. But if you want a car that looks good, feels good, and handles well, then this car might just be what your looking for. I just bought this car about a month ago and have yet to see a problem with it. But it culd be a little bit better on gas.
