1998 Grand Caravan--mistake to buy

We bought this thing ('98 Dodge Grand Caravan) new because we liked the way it looked and we had two kids in a carpool. Head gasket blew at 48,000 miles which cost $1100. I wrote a letter to Daimler-Chrysler explaining that modern cars just don't fail at 48,000 miles. They blew me off. Well, here we are at 97,000 miles and the transmission gave out. Not even 100,000 miles and the car has blown up twice. Bummer. No more Chrysler for me.

Great, sturdy car

I love my new Dodge Avenger SXT. It feels very sturdy and handles beautifully. I get great gas mileage, 30 miles per gallon highway driving. I wish it had a door bump strip on it though, because my last car got dinged up quite a bit from people opening their car door into mine. I have heated seats, which I love b/c I live in a very cold state! And a "my gig multimedia center" which is really cool too! We got a good deal on it, price-wise, and I'm very happy I purchased it.

Most Un-reliable Car I've ever had...

We purchased a 2008 Dodge Avenger program car with 13,500 miles in January of 2008. Within the first month of driving it the car would sputter and would die when slowing down or stopping. It also would hesitate when finding a gear and while doing this the car would surge. The dealership reprogrammed the computer. About a year later, This February, a planetary gear failed in the transmission. Which again the dealership repaired, or so it was thought, by overhauling the transmission. A few days later it started to smell like fried transmission fluid and it would occasionally clunk at highway speeds and also at low speeds. Again the dealership fixed it saying it was a loose mounting. Two days after that it banged again and smelled like burnt fluid again. The car was barely able to move itself. Now they are going to put in a re-manufactured transmission. To top it off they can't even get the radio clock to keep time. It also took three or four complaints to get the steering column to stop squeeking.

The Mini Charger

PROS: Amazing Ride, Turns heads, pleasure to look at, My gig sound system ROCKS CONS: :Rain/Snow dumps into Trunk when opening trunk lid, plastic interior, alot or road/engine noise I love this car, i have the "Eco friendly" PZEV 4cyl. SXT Fwd. The pros totally outweigh the cons. Looks like the Dodge Charger's little brother. I would still HIGHLY recommend this car. The 4cyl is powerful enough to move this heavy car, but it works hard and is kinda loud in the interior. The 4cyl has this wimpy 4 speed automatic (Needs a 5sp or 6sp). Plenty of power to keep up in hwy traffic though. The interior and the accessories they include/addon are to much to list and worth every penny. You can hear a lot of road and wind noise at higher speeds. The Boston Acoustic and My gig Radio (no navigation) are worth the upgrade. Currently im only getting about 24mpg, but it still still a new engine with only 7000 miles on it. I got mine in Black Pearl, and add the rear spoiler option, will help with driving in reverse. My only major complaint is the trunk lid. When it Rains or Snows and you open the trunk lid, rain water or the snow will slide off the lid and right into your open hatch. One design flaw from Dodge. Pro: no hinges to get in the way of your stuff. Con: your stuff gets wet. Now that gas prices have dropped, may be worth getting the 2.7 V6. Dodge should have put in the Auto stick in all the engine configurations

Loving it all over again...

It was love at first drive...I adore the growling front end and the sporty cut of the rear end. The brilliant black metallic is gorgeous, and the stain-proof fabric, comfy seats, and moonroof are my interior faves. I bought my 2.4 liter V-6 SXT last March 2008. Much to my disgust, someone crossed center line and ran me off the road less than a month after I drove it off the lot. I was headed straight for a tree, but the car responded well to my steering, and there was only damage down the passenger side. No air bags deployed (it has side curtain), but the damage was massive. When I got out of the car, I could not believe my eyes! Even the SUSPENSION on that side had to be replaced. All in all, I felt very protected; the car handled the wreck well. The dealership had her looking brand new again 3 weeks later. Still lovin it and NO problems!! The car gets up and GOES! I have never had a better car, and it was a steal at $22K with a lifetime powertrain. I will drive it 'til the wheels fall off!

The 4-Cylinder Delivers V6 Performance!

I just spent a day and 500 miles driving the Avenger with the 2.4L VVT -- and I had no idea it was a 4cyl until AFTER my trip. This car delivered 34 MPG on 500 miles of highway driving and I never felt like my life was in jeopardy of being slammed by a semi. Driving was on IH35 from Austin to Ft Worth, Ft Worth to Dallas, back to Austin. For those who do not know, IH35 is the "NAFTA Freeway" -- tons of semi's just waiting to run you over. The only inkling that something was not quite right was when I floored it and the revs went to 5000 rather quickly -- not quite what I was expecting from a V6. Then this evening I check under the hood and imagine my amazement. The review of this car is not correct -- the 2.4 has plenty of oomph for this chassis, hands down.

SWEET MACHINE!

This has been the best car I have ever owned. I was looking at the Dodge Charger, but saw this mid-sized muscle car and loved it right away. The V-6 gets great gas mileage while performing better than some small V-8s. The extras are phenominal. The MyGig System, DVD Player, Sattelite Radio and Aux contained within the audio package are a force to be reckoned with. It outperforms some aftermarket systems that people pay thousands on. The NAV system is spot on and I love the heated/cooled cup holders. The two-tone leather looks great and feels even better. Especially when you need a little extra heat in the cold mornings. Lots of room inside for the family. This car is a must see if you are looking.

Not what I bargained for

I purchased my Avenger in September and I have had one problem after the other. Some minor some not. The trunk leaked, the dome lights didn't work (which was a major fix with the electrical system). Just had it in to uninstall an auto start and reinstall a different one. It wouldn't work with the security. That's a full MN Winter without an auto start (Not a good time). I have had it in the shop a total of 32 days since I purchased it.

What a ride...

Sporty, quick and responsive are just a couple of the items I enjoy about the '08 Avenger. The seats are comfortbale and there are numerous functional items available. Remote start in the frigid Wisconsin winters is a blessing. First 12,000 miles produced no squeks, rattles or problems. We'll see how the next 100,000 miles go.
