Love the Older Style

I've owned my 2001 Dakota Quad Cab for 5 years. It has the 4.7L V8 and it has been very reliable. I really prefer the rounder style of this truck as compared to the hard corners of the newer ones.

Not a bad truck

Bought '01 2wd extended cab used. Only problems were the front rotors going out. Went through 2 sets and then thought about it, my calipers had blown o-rings. $35 fix, (knock on wood) haven't had a problem since. Good power for a V6. Hauled a 24' car trailer full of ATV's up the mountains no problem. I love the leg room and handling (after i put 18"x9.5" wheels on it). Not a bad truck at all.

RUN FASTER!

It's me again. Since my last review on July 30,2009: brake line, upper ball joints and entire exhaust from header to tailpipe needs replacement.

80% OK

Ordered it from the factory. Mysterious auto trans problem not fixed during warranty, still have the problem (TPS?). Water pump went out @38,000 miles. Fuel pump @41,000 miles. As of now, my check engine light is on all the time. replaced gas cap, checked vacuum hoses, "smoke" test, nothing can be found. Reset light and in 2 days it is back on (P442 code). Right size truck for what I needed.

RUN!

Run as fast as you can. This truck passes everything but the repair shop. U-joint, sway bars, three sets of rotors, tie rod, two wheel bearings, front bushing squeaks and numerous rattles, shakes, and shimmys from the rear end that have not been addressed yet - I'm scared. My mechanic loves me. Oh ya, it's only got 70,000 miles on it. Every other dakota owner has asked me if the tranny has gone yet.

2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4

TRuck has 197,000 miles no major problems. This truck still runs and drives great. I love this truck and would love to buy anouther one one day when this one finally stops going.

Loved the trucklet

Just traded mine in for a full size truck. Bought new in 2001 and never had any issues with it. We did put air springs in the back to handle the weight of the trailer we pull. And we added a fold a cover for it. The 5.9 in it was almost always up to the task. The Dakota was the perfect size pickup for us at the time. Big enough to do all the tasks, but not full size so parking was always easy. We do notice the size difference in our new full size truck, and only wish the current Dakotas weren't so ugly.

Watch Out!

I really like the size and styling of the Dakota, but its poor service record is bleeding me dry. In 2004 it seemed to cross some magical line (the warranty maybe?) and it hasn't gone 6 months in a row without being in the shop for something. And there's been some weird repairs. TPS, airbag timing spring, filler neck, two gas caps, and the power steering lines. And that's not all of it! I would stay away from this. And I'm told by those who work on them, that the newer models aren't any better.

It's the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned

I have owned this vehicle for five years now and would say that it has been the most versatile vehicle that I have ever owned. It?s got power, style and a lot of room. However, the reliability factor is a bit disappointing due to problems with the front suspension, electrical problems and ball joint issues (I only have 42,000 miles on it.)
