Would own more

Our Intrepid treated us very well, with only standard maint. it kept us going as our family grew we had no need to buy a different car. with the extremely large truck, large back seat and roomy front seats it is the best of both luxury and practicality. The only gripe we ever had was the cup holders are in a bad location and very close together and there are none for the back seat. in my book if the worst you can say about a car is it's cup holders then its a very good car!!!!

Junk cars are better

I have had issues with my car for years. I have had the check engine light on for 5 years now and everytime i check it out all i get is that it could be one of 3 problems. the car still drove fine until my transmission went and i had to have mine rebuilt at a cost of more than 4 grand total. when one thing is fixed something else goes out. dont think i will ever get a dodge again

gets the job done

i agree with someone who previously mentioned putting el cheapo gas in this vehicle might trigger the check engine light and mess with the tranny a little. when i got this car all i have done is give it oil changes and put 93 gas in it. just for the heck of it i replaced the transmission fluid. 140k + miles and still going strong!

I love it

I bought my 04 Intrepid in 2006 with 58,000 miles on odometer. It is a reliable car that i've ever owned. In only 4 years, I've put 110,000 more miles on the odometer without any problems, except the routine maintenance. However, check the coolant outlet housing for leakage. I replace once in 2008 and change the Dex-Cool to regular greenish coolant. I like the performance and styling of this car, and it is still my good buddy on the roads everyday....

Done with Dodge

This vehicle has been nothing but problems since the day I have bought it. It had numerous breakdowns beginning with the electrical problems, the electric windows worked sporadically, the truck button inside the vehicle stopped working, the air condition system consistently went out, among other electrical problems that left me stranded. On top of this the engine went out at 60k, after properly maintaining the engine. If I had not purchased the warranty It would have cost me right at seven thousand dollars just to replace this engine. Although these vehicles are inexpensive, I highly recommend that you spend a few more dollars and purchase something that is more reliable.

Keeps on going.

I purchased my 1999 Intrepid used with 26000 miles with the 2.7L. I now have 205,000 and have had no maintenance issues! Vehicle is roomy, yet has a sporty feel to it. Hope my next Dodge is as reliable as this one.

3.5L HO only!!!!

3.5 HO SXT. bought it with 103k, so far so good. don't put cheap gas in this car, triggers the check engine light and temporarly makes the tranny jerkish!! also don't mix different types of gas also triggers the check engine light. Exxon plus. i owned the 1999 2.7L 2 years ago sludge caused the engine to seize at 127k. avoid the 2.7L LO.the 3.5 is very powerful, but noisy when pushed. sporty handling. sporty suspension.

Great Value

I say its a great value because I bought it used very cheap due to low resale value. Never any major problems, never left me stranded, always reliable, AC always works, never runs hot (I live in Phx). I had a transmission problem once in 4 years at 140K miles, and was able to drive to a shop for repair, expect to go another 140K miles. Feel very safe in this big car and handles at high speeds very nicely, crosswinds hardly noticeable since its so heavy and low. And I get 25 MPG!! on my 3.7L V6 engine, couldn't be happier...

GREAT HANDLING CAR

I OWNED A 2001 INTREPID SE FROM 2004 TO 2007. THE CAR HAD THE BASE 2.7 V-6. PLENTY OF POWER FOR CLIMBING NORTH CAROLINA'S BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS (GREAT HANDING ON HAIRPIN CURVES. ALSO) GREAT FUEL ECONOMY ON LONG TRIPS TO FLORIDA. I HAD NO OIL SLUDGE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ENGINE WHATSOEVER!! I TRADED THE CAR FOR A SMALL FORD FOCUS. IRONICALLY, THE FOCUS ONLY GETS A FEW MORE MILES PER GALLON.
