Tin Foil on Skates
I received a used 2005 Neon with ~60k miles as my first car in early 2009. In the 2 years that I drove it I got into 3 wrecks, all of low to medium speed (10 mph, 25 mph, and 40 mph). In some circles of the auto industry, the Neon is referred to as "tin foil on skates", and after seeing it in wrecks first hand, I'd say this is an accurate assessment. In all 3 instances the other car in the collision suffered damage no worse than a fender bender, and my car absolutely crumpled. In the third and final collision, I rear ended another car on a highway exit ramp at 40 mph. Not only did my Neon's entire front end crumple, it burst into flames. And I'm not talking a few sparks, I mean a foot tall sheet of fire appeared the instant the collision occured. The air bags did not deploy (this is a known problem with the 2005 Neon). I am extremely skeptical of any modern car that catches fire like this, regardless of how many prior collisions it had. What if this happens to you and your seat belt locks or the doors will not open? If you have been shopping around a bit I'm sure you've noticed that there are a ton of 2005 Neons for sale at low prices (4k or less). But I bet you haven't seen many 2004 or 2006 Neons. This is because the 2005 was a terrible year for a car that didn't have much going for it in the first place. Other than the safety issues, my Neon also had recurring transmission problems, despite taking it to a good mechanic. Although I would not recommend this car to anybody (and especially not for the $4k I paid for mine), I would especially not recommend it for new drivers or anybody who drives where there is a risk of high speed collision. I have absolutely no faith in this car's ability to protect you in a 60 mph crash, and quite honestly, you can do a lot better for your money than this piece of garbage. Just buy an uglier car that's actually reliable.

SRT-4
My car is good for someone who like to race or have an extra car. I love my car it is just not practical for every day use unless you work a short distance from your house of have the money to spend on gas. It is a high preformance car and needs to be driven like one.

this car is the best
This car never stops surprising me i bought the car brand new back in 04 now it has over 105,000 niles on it never a problem. i mainly used it for work back when i first got it making deliveries driving it all day and night in some cases. the car hasn't let me down now im driving it more like i would a truck, dribing down roads that you would want to take a 4x4 down, of course not to bad of roads as to not sink the car. All the time i hear about people saying that their neon is breaking and having issues when they first get it, i dont believe its dodge's fault i have taken care of my car and its still going strong.

Worst Experience Ever!!!
I got my 2004 Dodge Neon new from the dealer, and from the beginning I had problems. I had the transmission replaced twice, no matter how many times the car is tuned up the breaks squeak, and the car shakes everytime I stop!! I will never get another dodge neon, it has been the worst experience driving this car!!!

Not Bad for the price
I bought my used 05 neon cause of sky rocketing gas prices that made my 04 ram hemi undrivable. I never relized gas prices could effect you this much. This neon was a one owner bought it with 24,600 miles and now have 40,000 on it now, had no problems with the car. Mpg i average 32-34 hwy with auto, cruise set @ 62 mph and slow accell. The car rides nice for a small car. I still think of the imports but so far have no reason to change. I will be moving and the commute will be 140 miles a day i am not sure if it will last in the high mile range of 300,000 as the imports but for the price can't complain. I guess you have to look @ the money you save compare to the imports any car is a gamble in my opinion. I have researched all the cars, honda, toyota, nissan, ford all seem to be in a 4-5 star field not one is perfect for me they all have there flaws. One thing is true the rear brakes squeal when it rains but they dry out fast, seats do stain from any liquid but not harsh, mirrors are a little small and no rear pwr windows offered and the auto trans is not smooth all the time sometimes is confused what gear to be in but not to bad. other then those complaints not to bad. 05,auto,sxt model fully loaded.

Best car yet!
We have had this car for a couple of years and bought it used. It has always performed extremely well in all seasons. The sound system is like a concert hall. We put a Monza Performance exhaust system on it along with a cold air intake, it has a real snap to it . More power and acceleration along with improving gas mileage. 22 MPG average around city driving, even with a little lead foot. Wish they were still made.
