Energi

I recently purchases my C-Max Energi after following it on the internet for 2 years. I traded in 2012 Focus Titanium and was up to date on My Touch and Sync provided by Ford. This is like flying an air plane and is just unbeliveable. I use the electric mode to my advantage making sure I use up the plug-in battery before I return home. Nothing like this on the market and everything as advertised and more. Great Car. I druve about 900 to 1000 miles a week and will use all 3 EV mode different variations

Well, I took the hybrid plunge with the Energi

We leased a 2013 plug-in C-max Energi early in Jan. We took the only one in local inventory, so ended up with the packed package, with white titanium flake paint. It charges overnight on house current, no special setup needed other than a typical outdoor outlet and an extension cord. The car came with a charger unit with 3 prong plug to connect to you extension cord. If you want to fully charge in 3 hours instead of 7-8 hours, you'll need to pay about $1500 for a unit installation that would do best inside a garage. Not for us, we just plug in overnight and it's been great. Now, Ford says you can go up to 21 miles purely as an Electric Vehicle (EV). First, after charging to 100pct, the battery indicator shows 17 miles only. I have driven the car to and from work (16 mi round trip, few lights, avg 35 mph) as a straight EV, no gas, and not using climate, radio or lights on, just to test it. The 17 miles range it shows on the dashboard is indeed what I end up getting for a range, so I'm not sure where they get 21 miles as a range claim. The interior, being leather in all the Energis, is nice, and the mySync system is pretty neat. Not much to say about our taupe leather interior other than its roomy and looks nice. The Energis have a reduced cargo space compared to the straight Cmax Hybrid, the floor of the cargo hatch is raised for the batteries. If that's a concern for you, compare the two in person. The Energi is super quiet, even when the gas engine kicks in, and has nice suspension so it's a quiet and comfortable ride. The Sony premium stereo system can lay down some serious leg-rattling bass, and the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone is awesome. The backup camera is also great and a real convenience. There isn't a lot of acceleration power---pickup--- in EV mode, but the gas engine has some kick and I tend to go to Auto Hybrid mode while on a highway anyway. Overall, we are pretty pleased with the car. Since electricity is about 10 cents a kWH now, and the batteries hold 7kwh, we figure its about 70 cents in electricity a day to commute. It saves about 150 dollars a month from my other car.

More for you money

After test driving a Prius the C-Max is a much better value it has more room, more power, better mileage and more standard features. The interior and controls are laid out better and feel more solid. The Toyota just felt cheap after driving the Ford. The Backup camera is very nice and the 110v accessory outlet is handy. It will go about 20 mi on full electric then the gas engine will kick on but it is so quiet you cannot feel or hear it. With hybrid battery on empty the car will operate just like a normal hybrid (gas engine will only come on when you reach about 40 mile per hour). The included 110v charger and cable will charge from empty to full in about 5 hrs, the 240v level 2 charger will take about 2.5 hrs.
