  • Bought new in 2017, DIY camper conv during winter.

I'm an ex military aircraft mechanic and this is my 5th DIY camper conversion. The options I chose are : 3.5 Ecoboost engine , cloth seats, A/C , Cruise cont , A/M - xxM - C/D radio , rear door windows , long (not extended ) body , and medium height roof in order to reduce side area(#1). During the conversion process I added a side "panoramic " window to the rear starboard side of the cargo area and another to the port side slightly behind the driver's seat ( I later chose to add a small window in the sliding door (#2) . I also added to the cargo area lighting , along with 110/120 V access and 2 heaters connected to the engine cooling system with an on-line/off-line option as basic mods. Note : With the exception of 2020 ( due to Covid-19 restrictions ) I've been driving this vehicle an average of 42,000+km ( +/- 28,000 miles )in Every kind of weather , on Every kind of road/trail in Eastern Canada . Findings : Plusses : Comfortable , drives like a car ( it should , many Fully equipped cars are less expensive ), responsive with reasonable fuel mileage . Minusses : Really subject to side wind-gust loads (#1)even when towing a boat with load stabilizers. Dangerously Dismal lateral rear view (#2). Rear brake to front brake wear ratios are beyond stupid (30% rear and 100% rear - TCS problem ? ) and rear replacement is uber pricey ( the axles have to be pulled - go figure ....) . The windshield Will crack and require replacement if hit by any but the tiniest grain of sand ( 4 instances so far , all while driving on a highway) Factory built-in flaws : There are NO dedicated hard points to tow /pull the vehicle from the front without causing damage, nevermind mounting a hook or a winch , pretty much the same at the rear though installing a tow hitch somewhat alleviates the problem . Inner fenders are Optional ; which means that unless you're already aware of the possibility , the windshield fluid tank AND it's electric motor are completely exposed to being hit by sand , gravel , slush , and ice spun off at high velocity by the front right tire . In the engine compartment the outside water infiltration can pool in the valve cover bolt insets causing the bolts/nuts to corrode solid (my solution in this case has been to - when already dry - give them a shot of WD40 and seal them with an easily removeable used wine cork which , No , will not overheat an catch fire ). Summary : Overall a decent vehicle provided its operated and maintained within reasonable margins . Recommendations : The turbos are really what fries the oil in a hurry , moreso after a high speed run followed by an immediate engine shutdown . Let the engine run at idle for a minute or more before shutting down - a few cups of gas is hellaciously cheaper than having to replace a turbo , and so is oil , which is why ( bearing in mind that Ford would absolutely love selling me a new pair of turbos and/or engine ) I deliberately ignore Ford's oil change interval and set mine at 6000km /4000miles . Did you ever wonder how come there are Douglas DC- 3 airliners still flying ? Great design and proper maintenance have anything to do with it ?

  • It's not bad

I got my van beginning of 2018 Since the day I got it from the dealership until today every time I turn off the van and exit the door I get electrocuted.! Also be aware that Ford is selling the vans without HVAC filters in them installed at all ,! If you don't install a filter on your own sooner or later your AC will be dead..

  • Biggest van they make, handles like a large car

bought the extended high roof option, with turbo 3.5 Ecoboost engine. gets remarkably good mileage, handles well for a rolling billboard, but cross winds disturb it. installed rear antisway bar and improved stability. installed crew cab second row seats for family, used it as furniture hauler, scrap metal hauler, firewood hauler. Does everything well without complaints. May turn it into food truck later. Installed inverter and deep cell batteries beneath the floor for 110 volt power but have rarely used it so far.

  • Great cargo van. Easy to handle. Very reliable.

My husband wants to become a food distributor just to keep it and continue driving it. Very nice. Handles well. Would consider buying one myself. Reasonably priced.

  • First transit love this van

I use this for a service business. The only issue I have is that maybe they could make a more comfortable seat. I drive several hours sometimes could really use some extra comfort there. Other than that I could not be happier with this van. Handles great maneuvers great easy to drive.

  • From old to nearly new

I have a 1991 Ford E150 Van that I have been working out of doing construction that seems like forever, the old van has 76K miles on it,still runs and drives OK but just doesnt have the ride it use to have after many years of service..I have been looking to upgrade for a while and decided to look at the newer model Ford 250 Transit Vans, it is comparable is size and usability for what I am dioing with it..The 250 Transit is like driving a sports car compared to the old E150..Drives,rides,sounds, cools, and no leaks or whistling as you drive,,I dont miss the old van one bit..

Love the styling and layout of this van. A new and better replacement van than our E 350. Updated looks and efficiency.

  • Short time owner

Only had the van for a week but I love it. I bought it for business and it had most of the available options. What sold me was the test drive of the available Ecoboost after driving the Dodge/Ram 250. The power difference is significant and well worth it. Drives more like a car than a van. Drove a E350 for five years and I don't know what they did to tighten up the steering but very nimble/responsive to the steering wheel. Added ladder rack and trailer hitch before I even took it off the lot. Have pulled a 6X10' single axle enclosed trailer with my stuff in it and had no problem with the added weight in handling or acceleration. I would have bought a 8 cyl if it were available just because I want the additional available power but our government thinks we are to stupid to know what is good for us. Considering what is available I wouldn't buy anything but the Ecoboost engine. To soon to give it a reliability rating. Ask me in two or three years.
