  • Love the car

It truly is a wonderful car. Beautiful, comfortable and reliable. I purcased the car last fall, parked it for the winter and began driving ot in the spring. I love every moment driving it. Only problem is that at 67 it is a little hard getting in and out compared to my suv. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. British racing green , tan interior great color combination

  • I have owned the 1997 Jaguar for 19 years

The poor man's Rolls without the Rolls problems. A head turner. The beautiful racing green paint and cinnamon interior and all the wood everywhere has always had people admiring it. It just has 53K on the clock. The failings are as follows; Memory seat Who cares I am only driver Drivers door stay Hold the door open Traction control Never drive it in the winter The car has had amazing reliability considering it is 24 years old. Plan to keep till I am gone.

  • i have owned this car for nineteen years

great stylish looking car inside and out, always get compliments on it. Bought the car with 23000 miles on it, now there's 145000. Never has the car give me trouble, not like most people think.

  • Planned obsolescence at 80k miles and sooner.

German-made GF tranny failed (US$3100 to rebuild), alternator ($400), starter ($450) body control module ($1200) all also failed too soon. I6 timing chain beginning to complaining at startup. OBD pollution sensors no longer ready, so car fails inspection and requires expensive waiver. Even Jag dealers unable to fix this apparent design flaw.

  • Perfect 97 Jag VDP

Love the sound when this car starts up. Comfortable, sleek. Great on the road. Everything is great on this car. One draw back ...cup holders were lacking stability in this model. The 97 Jag I purchased is almost perfect in everyway. I would buy it again.

  • Love the classic Jags

I have owned two 1996 VDP's and recently bought a 1997 (the last year before they switched to V8). I have enjoyed all three and had no problems (except they are horrible in snow or ice). They are elegant and fun to drive, and they are economical and reliable relative to other cars in this class and their reputation. I have heard bad things about the V8's that replaced this model but if you find a low mileage VDP from 95-97 that was well taken care of, buy it. It will likely look really expensive but be really cheap and ride really well.

  • A Great Deal on a Luxury Car

I bought this car used in 2007 with 25k mileage. I've put on 7K in a year. This is defintely one of the best cars ever made by Jaguar. Unfortunatley, Jaguars do not hold their value very well but this is a great opportunaty to buy a luxury car at an affordable price. Gas mileage around town is 23 and close to 30 on the open road. You do not need to use premium gas in the car. I belong to the Nation's Capital Jaguar Owner's Club and folks experience with this engine is that it is good for 250K without a rebuild.

  • Incredible Luxury Car for the Money

I purchased my 1997 Vanden Plas in 2001 and it has been my everyday-driven car ever since. She now has 110,000 miles and I could not be happier with this car. The 4.0L, 6-cyl engine is very reliable. I have never had any engine problems. My Jag mechanic says he has customers looking for these cars because this was the last year of this engine. After 1997, Jag used the V8 engines that have been less reliable. I have only had one issue with the car in my time as owner: at approx. 80,000 miles, my rear differential went out. The repair shop said it was bone-dry, so I had burned it up somehow. I never saw any fluids under the car, so it must have been a very, very slow leak. The car still looks and drives beautifully.

  • Last of the truly beautiful Jaguars.

Last of XJ6 to have original straight 6 cylinder engine Jaguar has continually developed over forty years. Nothing if not well designed and withstanding the test of time. Last the of original Jaguar body styles that have not evolved into Ford's "Taurus with a kitty on the hood". To Ford's credit, they fixed many of the problems with reliability, without destroying the beauty of the design. They began on that quest in 1998, resulting in the pathetic styling of all of the new Jaguars. Last of the classic Jaguars worth owning. Caveat Emptor: Keystone Cars in Indianapolis grossly over-rates their used Jaguars. Probably not worth even driving there to see their cars.

  • PRESTIGE, LOOKER, RELIABLE....nobody what i payed!

1997 xj6 Vanden Plas : What a car for the money!!!!....incredible value. I payed just under $15,000 for this incredible car. I only rate its performance and interior design a 4 because i also own a BMW which is a 5 in those departments, however the Jag. is superior in everything else. 245hp 300lbs or torque Dual exhaust Timeless design Most desired car (US news) Most luxurious, and beautiful design you will ever come across!! British racing green and Saphire are hard to come by. Jump on them if you can. The only con. is never EVER liking any other car.
