She's a keeper!

I purchased my 99 Cherokee, new. She is 25 years old and just, a couple of years ago I had a hose brake and them a new radiator. Last week went thru a bad storm on the freeway, some much water, I could fill it hydroplaning, but she kept steady. Once vacationing in the mountain, in June, it started to snow. The next morning it was still snowing, so we packed up to go My jeep is not a four-wheel drive. Some other people were leaving too. We were the only ones to get up the road, everyone else couldn't make it. I love this car. Almost replaced it but just can't. Oh ya, she only has 137000 miles.

UNSTOPPABLE!

I bought a 1998 Jeep Cherokee in Oregon a little over a year ago, and the next week threw as many of my belongings as I could fit into her (which with the back seat down was a lot!), left just enough room for my dog, and drove the 2,000+ miles almost to the southern tip of Baja. The jeep was perfect! These old beasts are as reliable and safe as you can get. Most of my friends thought I was nuts as a 72-year-old woman driving alone to and through Mexico but I knew Roxie (my Jeep) would get me here and she did. She is also the perfect Baja car as many of the roads here are dirt or sand, full of potholes, often flooding the rare times it rains but nothing has ever stopped her. She has just over 200K miles on her which, according to every mechanic whoever looked at her says has at least another 200K in her, probably more. If you want reliable, fun, unstoppable with personality and a great body, get one of these old Cherokees up to 2001. Sadly and misguidedly, Jeep changed both the body style and the amazing engine after that and Cherokees have never been the same since--but you can´t go wrong with these great, almost imortal vehicles!

Reliable, very few problems

My mom drives a 99’. We bought it about 6 years ago with 150k miles on it for about $3k when the used car market was better. This car has had very minimal problems and/or problems that can be fixed at home. It has about 300k on it now and is still going strong. However it does has a transmission problem but almost all cars eventually, the transmissions go bad. However, everyone’s opinion my differ depending on the condition the car is when bought. If the car was not maintained before you will definitely see more problems. One thing I do dislike is how the car is not as heavy and sometimes if it is windy you may feel the car get pushed a little. But, overall this car will last you a long time, even when buying it with a bit of mileage on it. It’s has a very nice vintage look to it and so much fun to drive. Absolutely no blind spots and is very easy to see out of. The car is really spacious and super comfortable. Also they are pretty easy to work on and you can take it to a trust mechanic that won’t charge you a fortune like most dealerships. It accelerates very nicely. It’s a great everyday drive. It’s crazy sometimes to see that even though these cars are over 20 years old they are still on the road. The engine in this car is definitely one of the best Jeep has ever made. I would definitely recommend this to someone who has an eye for 90s vintage cars and is looking for something older but still reliable.

Indestructible 4.0L

When I sold this thing, it has 230,000 miles and I saw it 2 years later still driving around. Literally indestructible 4.0 motor. Very reliable jeep. Great 4x4. Cabin was a little cramped but wasn't a dealbreaker. Loved the squared off look.

369,000 miles and runs great!

In the 7 years I've owned it, I've only replaced the clutch kit. I'm about to replace the steering box but it runs and drives super! And it's a 5- speed manual. Wouldn't trade it!!!!! It's boxy in shape and has little room for things like wallet or phone which is the only reason I gave 4 stars.

Most reliable car 1999 Jeep Cherokee classic 4.0

I bought my first 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0. It had 30,000 miles on it. I lived off grid for a year and when it got 17 below zero it started EVERY time the first time! I did oil changes, tires, and a full tune up with new battery the entire time I owned it which was 15 years! I sold it for $6000.00 with over 200,000 miles on it. I was really broke and cried when I had to sell it. Anyway when things got better for me I bought the same car 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. It looked a little rough I have had it about 6 years now and it just hit 200,000 miles on it. I love this vehicle. It has saved my life. This would be a great first car for a teenager and If you can get a real Jeep dude that knows the vehicle he can show you how the Iow gears work and how to allow the Jeep to drive itself over boulders or on the streets by not touching the gas pedal. This car can practically drive itself! I am going to have a hard time selling this car. I have an offer and the opportunity to get into a Lexus with 5000 miles on it from an older man who does not drive it and wants to get rid of it. I think I may just hang onto my Jeep. I am 59 years old I have been driving this make of Jeep for coming up on 20 years now. It is the best car I have every had. I also drove a Mercedes 560 SL Roadster and had an Audi, BMW and the Jeep is just a special means of transportation. You will not be disappointed.

Strong vehicle that is simple to maintain

Strong engine, simple design and easy upgrades. Most parts are accessible if anything needs to be repaired. Interior could always be custom fabricated since the layout allows it.

Still on the road

Bought my little '99 in '06, with 59,000 miles on it. We're now over 175,000 and going strong! Usually drive it around town and get about 16 mpg. Frequently drive it over 300 miles to visit family and get about 21 mpg on those trips. No issues, just basic maintenance and little things like a window switch or a fan fuse. A couple of sensors have been replaced. Nothing major. I'll drive it 'til it's done.
