Very good choice
Bought mine with 140,000 miles on it. Have put 100,000 since purchasing. It was like new in condition. Interior was excellent. Drives great. Very comfortable. V8 is quick quick when needed. Have replaced heater core. A job you hope to only do once. Have no desire to ever get rid of it.

Super reliable and powerful
This has been a super tough and very reliable SUV for the past nearly two years of ownership. The original engine (4.7 liter, V8) and tranny will soon have 340,000 miles (NO KIDDING!) on them. The engine has been completely trouble-free, except for a bad MAP sensor which gave out recently. It is super cheap and very easy to install. Other than this, we haven't had to so much as touch the engine, except for maintenance (spark plugs, coils, and oil). Quite a few other things have required repair/replacement, but that is only to be expected on a vehicle with 340,000 miles. Not all of the repairs were necessary, either. We did all of them by ourselves, which saved tons of money, making it more worth it to fix the problems. Over the past two years, we have had to replace/repair the following: both valve cover seals, oil filler tube gasket, engine oil pan gasket, a parking brake cable and all parking brake shoes, rear axle seals and bearings (the driver's side had to be done twice), radiator, rear wiper motor, driver's side rear window motor, passenger door module, two motor mounts, the heater core, a blend door motor, an alternator, and the passenger's side latch on the rear liftgate. Also, we did a hack to fix the reverse lights. The only other way to repair them was to replace the whole transmission valve body, a $400+ part with hours of labor. We created our own electrical circuit for the reverse lights – new switch, wire, relay and everything – and it works 100% reliably. This may sound like a lot of repairs, but we have done quite a few more on our newer minivan. In that respect, this Jeep is very reliable. The PowerTech 4.7 engine is super powerful. This Jeep can haul just about anything. It has endured summertime heat, the deep snow of Pennsylvania, and since we purchased it, the rugged mountains of Southwest Virginia. And it still runs. The engine purrs as smooth as a kitten, and doesn't lack any vigor. The Quadra-Drive all-wheel drive provides superior traction in a variety of terrain: snow, ice, gravel, and mud are nothing. For being a Jeep, the ride of this Grand Cherokee is amazing. The heated leather seats are super comfortable, better than any other car I've ever sat in – even a Toyota Avalon! The interior is well-designed and of very high quality. The biggest downside of this Jeep is the imaginably low fuel mileage. We can usually get 250 miles out of a tank of gas, but have never calculated MPG. It's low – take my word for it! However, if you're looking for V8 power, that's the cost you pay.

Most reliable car I have ever owned.
My friend has this same Jeep and it has nearly 300,000 miles on it and is still in great operating condition. This Jeep has lots of power and handles very well. It is a very comfortable ride and has a lot of leg room. It gets great gas mileage! A beautiful SUV!

Best comfort ride ever! Dependable 19 years old
Love this Jeep comfort is best ever! I’m 68 woman would never change! The new jeeps are lacking comfort Accessability and dependability and way over priced! Only body issue is the hood letters Jeep peeling warping even since garaged out of weather at 110,000 miles it’s like day I drove out of dealers except for few inside marks The differentials I’ve replaced one side with no towing or off road I’m surprised at this costs ! but bring back the original Jeep grand Cherokee comfort and dependability please ! The back window opening is a outdoors persons need. And Jeep lower the price please make this same but lower prices where everyone can afford this! Also bringing back the old original wiiie Jeep !

Worst car I ever owned
Bought a new 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2002 at a steep discount. Worse car I ever owned. Had the brake rotor warping issue that was a subject of recalls. Also had all four window regulators break in a span of 6 weeks. It’s now 18 years old with only 121k miles. Steering the wheel squeaks, radiator leaks, and the ABS warning light turns on and off. Still the power train has been solid but everything else has been unreliable. Will never buy another Jeep again.
