Bought this car used 8 months ago. It runs and drives well, especially the 4 wheel drive in the snow and ice! I couldn't feel any safer driving any other vehicle. Felt like I was in a tank after a giant deer ran out in front of me @ 60 mph.
One of the more reliable cars I’ve ever owned
I hate to admit it but our 220,000 mile 2007 Kia Sorento has been extremely reliable. Repairs so far: new drive shaft; 4 door exterior door handles; driver door auto lock. I have performed regular oil changes and filters. No transmission service or fluid changes ever. In saying this, it has performed a little less than 2014 ACURA TL. As much as I would like to speak ill of Kia, I can not.
I bought brand new a 2007 Kia Sorento LX 4WD in May of 2007 and have used the 4WD every day just to get to the poorly paved county road. I now have 250,000 and have not had any major problems. It holds up very well and I am hoping to get another 250,000 miles out of it.
SUV on steroids with towing capacity
We have owned and operated this Kia Sorento AWD for 5 years and aside from maintenance it has been a solid and stable SUV. The engine is one of the best designed and plenty of power when needed.
Engine stalls while driving.
I bought this car used about a year ago, at 127,000 miles. It ran fine until a couple months ago when it began to stall while driving. The engine just shuts off completely. It will start again and go for a short distance, but stall again and again. I've barely made it home several times. VERY scary, as I live where there's traffic and a sudden stall like that could be fatal! Two mechanics have looked at it and cannot diagnose the problem, as it throws no codes. The second mechanic gave up trying to figure it out and told me to take it to Kia Dealer Service, which I did. However, I retrieved it the next day without them working on it, because after extensive research on the internet regarding Kia engine stalling and reading hundreds of reviews by Kia owners, I concluded that Kia does not know what's causing this engine failure either, but they will fix many things and you will end up with a great big bill only to have the engine continue to stall. I can't afford to put thousands of dollars more into this Kia Sorento only to have the same problem. I'm afraid to drive the car at all now, so its a useless pile of metal sitting in my driveway, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I have around $5,000 into it and can get around $650 to junk it. So this car has lost me over $4,000 worth of hard earned money. If you're thinking of buying a Kia, I'd advise you to read all you can about it first. Read all the consumer reviews about all the problems they've had with their Kia's, including but not limited to the engine stalling. You will see what I'm talking about. I've come to hate this car and wish I had never bought it. I would never buy another Kia.
biggest waste of money
there should be a class action lawsuit for the 07-09 sorento with the 3.8L engine. timing chains fail at 60-80k miles. the engineers who came up with the poor design of plastic for guides and such should lose their jobs. it’s plastered all over forums
I am afraid to drive it
Not trustworthy so far. My alignment is always off no matter how many times I get it fixed. Something new is always wrong with it. Comfortable car, good room for a family. Space for luggage. It is scary to drive though with the recall.
Reliable truck I’ve ever driven
The truck is awesome even though it’s 12 years old. I’ve kept up with all its needs and that the reason I still have this truck.
