love my Lexus
I have owned several and my wife drives one as well. I see people complaining about transmission issues and I am amazed, as I have never had a transmission issue. With that said, I do know there are some sensors that have to be changed that will act like the over drive is out, but this is the computer causing it not to shift into over drive. This is a maintainance item that does not get done because of expense. Lexus told me the transmission was going out, but I researched that it was the knock sensors. I did the service myself. It took 7 hours on a weekend, but the parts were less than $300. I have not had an issue since.

Worst car I have ever owned!
After 90,000 miles the transmission went out on the car. I replaced with a Lexus transmission costing me $5000....now 10 months later rebuilt transmission going out too!! For all of you bragging about what a great car this is you must have less than 90000 miles on it....trade it while you can!!

Bad Transmissions
At 110,000 miles, transmission is shot. Remanufactured transmission would have been $4880. Had it rebuilt for $2650 but shifting is not as smooth as before. Rebuild should have only been about $1500, but planetary gears and other hard parts were broken, with large half inch chunks of steel snapped off, deep grooves in the steel from clutch packs seizing up, and many of the parts were burnt up and discolored. Look on the net and you will find MANY owners reporting transmission problems for 99-03 RX300's. What's nice about this is that Toyota had the class to admit the problem and pay for the problem. Oh. Wait, that was in my dreams.

Great value
My Lexus came w/ 100k on it. Very solid, tight car. It has a few quirks tho. 1st gear is very low, seems to shift at around 5 mph to 2nd. Also in colder weather, it takes longer to shift from 2nd to 3rd,and more rpms, just the first time. after that, it's normal. Also, the wipers have no "mist" feature for 1 wipe. Mpg is ok for a car this size but you pay for it in power and torque. The AWD was great in winter driving, seemless. There is a great web site for the Lexus, been a great help to me. If the price is right, buy it!

Best car ever for a long term relationship
Once, when I got a pretty good paying job, I decided to sell my Dodge Caravan for a couple hundred bucks and bought this car when it was 2 years old and had 9,000 miles. 6 years later it has 75,000 miles. This will be a short review because it's been so reliable, it's been so comfortable (ah...the seat are so comfy esp when I use the seat warmers) and the gas milage isn't that bad... Great for hauling garden supplies, entertaining clients, taking long trips. This may be my last car.

Never should have sold my Accord V6
The transmission went at just over 100,000 miles. The turning radius is dreadful. I bought this used with 33,000 and in the subsequent 90,000 miles I've put roughly $10,000 into repairs. Did I buy someone else's lemon? Do I need to find a new mechanic. Are these RX300s as good as advertised? Hmmm.

great overall family vehicle.
the reason i give handling two stars is because this vehicle has the turning radius of an 18-wheeler... i've owned it since '04 and it sat in a garage for two years while i was overseas. it still is running very well, held up great in a fender bender last week. i wish there was a child seat anchor in the center of the rear seat as opposed to the less-safe driver and passenger sides. it's extremely comfortable to ride in for my whole family. lots of luxury for a good price. mine only has 70,000 miles so i look forward to many more years of driving it. i get about 16 - 18mpg, mostly city driving.

Very Disappointed
I bought this vehicle mainly for reliability & I'm very disappointed. With only 91,000 miles on a car that supposedly would last 200,000 to 250,000 miles my transmission has gone out. The cost of repair through Lexus is $4500 to $5000.

A very reliable vehicle
We bought this car new and we have enjoyed driving it. We were going to trade it in after 3 years, but we loved it so much, we just couldn't do it. Instead we have decided to pass it down to our children because it is such a reliable car. You have to take care of a car if you want it to last. This car has the easiest maintenance. We will definitely consider purchasing this vehicle again in the future!

Mom's car
My mom drives this car, it's been around for 6 years and it still work like a charm. The leather seats give wonderful comfort. My mom and I also love to listen to music, the premium sound systems are great. This car is fun to drive around anywhere in, and it's perfect for going hiking while driving through the mountains. Enjoy this car if you have it, or if your buying it, then get it because it is the greatest family car ever.
