Overall good experience with some nit picking.
--Back up camera stopped working at 45k miles. :( --Wish had rear ventilation for kiddos, air flow is not great. --Wish had better controls of the radio stations, can't save stations as favorites. (I know, I know. Kinda nit picky critique. I drive to other cities often and used to save stations for those cities in past cars.) However, overall experience of vehicle is good, handles really well in snow. Haven't had any issues with is until the camera... which is really annoying though. A lot of space for cargo, kids, and everything that comes with kids.

Best of the options
Chose the CX-5 over the Rav4, Honda CR-V and others. It was more comfortable, more stylish and more car for the money. So far, great choice.

CX-5 Touring, first Mazda
I never expected to buy an SUV. The CX-5 is a "crossover" or compact SUV built on a car platform. I was first attracted by its style, which is a little athletic, not too masculine, and doesn't seem chubby like some other crossovers. The cockpit feels as if it were designed for me... nicely supportive bucket seat with all the controls in reach, and a smallish steering wheel. It handles easily, with lively acceleration for a 4 cylinder engine. What sold me: passenger room. In both front and back seats, there's great leg room and head room for 4 full-sized adults. The CX-5 seems bigger on the inside than on the outside. Advertising indicates it seats 5, but passenger #5 would have to be a child sandwiched between 2 other passengers in the back seat (there are seat belts for 5). The biggest minus so far: strong new-car smell, including new-engine smell. The salesperson explained there is a coating on the engine parts that will burn off in the first 30 to 50 miles. This car has irritating fumes from plastics, adhesives or carpet, so I've been driving it with the windows open until it airs out. The ride is stiff, but not intolerable. Having had it only a couple of weeks, I have no idea as to reliability. Consumer publications seem to expect it to be reliable, and it also gets high safety ratings. I have no regrets for buying the Mazda CX-5. Only time will tell how well it holds up over many miles and years. It's a pleasure to drive, and a pleasure to look at.

Great car could be better
I've had my 2015 GT for four months and have put about 4700 miles on it 50/50 city/highway. I'm 5'3" tall and find the seat position to be better than most other cars. The headrest could be set back just a bit, but the seat position is still better for me than the Hondas, Toyotas, etc. Before buyng the CX5 I tried most of the others on the market, concentrating on high end models. I liked this one more than any other, at any price point. It has all the features I need, good gas mileage (although I can't get over 28.5 mpg highway driving 65 mph no matter what I do. I have no idea how some people can get 32-33 with the same 2.5 engine.) Am very happy I don't need premium gas. I average 26.5 or so in city driving- can push it to 27.6 if I pay attention and coast a lot. As mentioned by other reviewers the handling is very nimble and it drives well. Noise levels are not overly obtrusive, but it's definitely louder than some high end SUVs. A bit more attention to sound insulation would have been nice. The infotainment system needs help and I've heard it was improved in the the 2016 models. Mine is very sluggish, takes a long time to switch from channel to channel and the voice recognition doesn't work well. The Bose speakers improved over time and I get good overall sound from them with decent base. Would have been great if there was a subwoofer in the car, and maybe a couple of small tweaters on the side of the window for higher definition. I think it's a great looking SUV. Love the lines. There were not enough options for exterior/interior color combinations. I wanted a tan interior but ended up with the black because the tan was only offered with white, red, dark blue. The front cools off fine with the air conditioning. The back takes time. The SUV should have rear vents. Rear view mirror visibility is not great (no worse than other SUVs) I usually travel alone, so I took out the rear headrests. I put them back in when I have passengers in the car. I previously owned a Honda with a side camera, but prefer the simpler blind spot warnings on the CX5 which work well. The car feels solid but the trunk lid is a bit heavy. I'd like to see them install a remote open/close feature. Even it they do make all these changes I don't expect to trade in the 2015 for a long time. It's a keeper.

Excellent car for the money
I have enjoyed driving Mazda cars since I purchased my first one back in 2005. They are fun to drive and easy to maintain. I had to step up from my old Mazda3 to get this more family friendly car and I was dreading it a bit as I have rented several other compact SUVs on vacations and never really liked them. The lines on the CX-5 are sleek and nice and despite having a little 4 cylinder engine this car has some serious get up and go. I have driven it into the mountains here in Colorado several times and it handles well on steep roads and in the snow. I feel very safe when driving it. I do miss my manual transmission but it is nice to not have to hold the clutch in all the time in traffic and the automatic transmission has a mode where it will almost redline the engine before shifting gears so you can really get going up hills when you need to. The CX-5 is a very comfortable ride, the seats are wonderful and four full grown adults fit well in it. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a great compact SUV that is easy on your wallet but can still get you to the places you want to go.

Great car for the price
I bought my 2015CX-5 with manual transmission 6 month ago. The car is very comfortable, but also inside it is very basic for the price. Three color options only for the manual transmission was disappointing. The extras provided in the automatic are not provided in the manual transmission, which I found rather disappointing, at least the Bluetooth, added to most cars in that price range, is not included. Shifting gears up can be very sticky, I thought it was only me, but have found that others have similar issues. Also my defroster knob will not stay in position, already have taken it to the dealer once, after only a short time back to the same problem. Other than that, it is a fantastic car, very comfortable on long trips and very stylish, but it could be improved.

THIS CAR SAVED MY LIFE
I was in a wreck yesterday and do not feel like I should be alive. I swerved off the road and literally broke a telephone pole in half. My Mazda was understandably totaled, however I believe it kept me alive. I walked away just with aches and pains. So thankful. I recommend this car to everyone.

Nearly Perfect!
The CX5 is a great package - although there are some areas Mazda could have done a little better. The interior is a little spartan for such a stylish exterior. The transmission is a little sticky at times in switching from lower to higher gears, and it does not roll "freely" when gearing down to first gear. The back seats and hatch area are spacious for a smaller car. I am very pleased with this car and would highly recommend it as comfortable, versatile, well performing and economical transportation.
