Be prepared to spend double on repairs

This is a great looking car. Great ergonomics. E55 AMG has every option you could want. I think if the car wouldn't break down, this would be the best car I had ever owned. Computer. The car has an OBDII port for standard stuff. Also has a STAR computer that actually talks to everything. The STAR is not easy to talk to without a very expensive computer. You need to take it to someone that has the ability to communicate with the STAR. Once they look at it (preferably before you buy) then you can see what errors will sneak up on you when you actually purchase. Brakes. The electronic braking system has a certain number of pedal pushes, and will cost about 2500 for new parts and the service. The STAR computer is needed to release the brake pressure before you just start wrenching, BE CAREFULL!. Fuel System. If you smell gasoline in the back of the car (inside) then your fuel pumps are going bad, another $800.00 fix. If you smell the gas at the back of the engine bay, then you need a fuel pressure valve (only $75) but if you don't replace that one, you can burn your house down. Rear Tires. if they show signs of uneven wear on the insides, then you have a camber problem, and that can cost you thousands in tires and all new control arms. I had to make custom camber arms to get the tires to not wear uneven to threads in 3 months or less. Panoramic sunroof. this is a great feature of the car. until the motor breaks and it cost you 500 to get fixed. make sure that it moves smooth and oil it and the track often with mercedes $75 lube. Airbag Suspension. Another costly issue. to take care of these, make sure you condition the rubber bladders and remove any rocks. Also reseal the sensors so they don't get water damage and cost you another trip to the Dealer. Motorola phone. This has to go if it is causing an error. remove the phone and find instructions on MBWORLD.ORG to remove the module from the system Fiber Optic Radio. This car (E55 AMG) has a 7 channel fiber optic system. to change the Radio head unit, you need to re-run all wires to trunk for a full amplifier. The system itself can use a high level input to put a subwoofer in the trunk and sounds good enough. Lighting. All lights are old incandescent. to convert to LED you have to purchase very specific ones or be able to solder in some additional resistance to get the control modules to not error. Old lighting is very yellow and not very bright. Wheels. make sure your wheels are hub centric. universal non hubcentric wheels will not work without high end hub collars. the plastic ones will crack and not work. this is because the car uses lug bolts and they don't center the wheels very well. Be prepared to spend 500 a wheel for the wheels that will not give you problems.

Maintenance is extremely expensive

Great car, but when something goes wrong, even the little stuff expect to shell out at least $200-1,400. Very fun classy car though.

Low Price Luxury. Large aftermarket exposure.

$70K car for $5K or less? You bet. Mercedes E500 4Matic wagon offers excellent value and super V8 performance. Find one extra clean and get after market repair parts for a 1/4 cost of factory parts. Don't be fearful of repairs to the air ride, brakes or foggy headlights. That's why these go for pennies on the dollar. Inexpensive solutions now exist for all of these issues that crop up after 100K miles. How- To videos abound on the net. Do your home work and you will be rewarded with class leading luxury and sleeper-car performance. And above all have fun!

Good Quality Car

In general, good quality car. interior controls are better laid out than our previous 1999 E320 Wagon.

Its an ok deal but....

This car is ok but the price should be lower. It has some scratches in the paint. The interior is a little worn but ok. The cd player doesn't work and there is a bubble in the passenger side front tire. Other wise its an ok vehicle. Because its priced as is the dealer refused to repair the cd player which could be very costly to repair. The sales staff is very nice though and will work with you the best way possible, just make sure that the vehicle you purchase is completely detailed and everything works before your purchase.

Pride of Ownership

When I purchased my E-Class just 2 months ago as a used vehicle, little apprehensive if it was a good buy or not. In just 2 months, I have had $2,370 in repairs. Fearful of the next big repair. Module in dashboard had to be replaced ($1,500), auxilary battery ($250), lower ball joint ($300), some interior trim ($200) --- diagnostic charges to discover malfunctions ($300). Lots of dependable power under the hood (E-500). Rides smoothly. Interior design is creative and sporty with 2-tone trim and wood accents; leather seats. Roomy enough to transport 3 additional passengers in comfort. Overall exterior design is classy with interesting lines. Stylish rims. Great factory sound system. This is the 5th Benz I have owned! Believe that Mercedes-Benz is one of the most beautiful machines on the road.
