Excellent vehicle for value and dependability
I purchased my 2008 Marina new off the lot in 2008. It currently has 256,223 miles without any need of major repairs. I had to change the ignition switch a year ago and just now began to have transmission issues. I love this vehicle and it has given me great service.

Bought a lemon
Bought this car @ 105,000 miles for $7500. Had to replace shocks, 4 tires, complete A/C system, brakes, tie rods; over $2000 more work had to be done to it to get it safe & reliable on the road.

Excellent value, in the Premier model.
The Mariner is great, performance, mpg, very little maintenance repairs and best of all manueverability. If I could insulate the cabin area to subdue the road noise I would not think of replacing it.

Time Will Tell!
Bought the 2011 Mercury Mariner Premier from a dealer with 91,000 one owner miles on it. Initial thoughts are the vehicle is well built, attractive, the 3.0 V6 is peppy and responsive, love the interior and exterior presentation. This is a 5-Star crash test rated SUV. Has front wheel drive with ABS braking which is adequate for our driving habits. Had some technical issues getting our Syrius radio activated but did get a 3 month free trial period. Dealer installed a new set of tires which was appreciated along with some a/c repairs and a few other miscellaneous items. Time will tell if this Merc will hold up but initial impressions are very favorable.

Good but not great
The Mercury Mariner is a fairly solid car, very comfortable inside with its heated leather seats which make winter bearable and a nice sun roof which helps air the car in the summer. It does have plenty of storage in the cargo but the back seats don?t fold down flat which makes it awkward to carry bulky items like furniture. Other drawbacks: gas mpg is bad at 19 which means the car has to be filled every week (I use the car every day for work) and that gets expensive. The car also tends to pick up speed when going down even a small hill (have to keep applying the brakes) and is slow to respond when you step on the accelerator hard to get it to move fast. Not a bad car but I wouldn?t buy it again.

MAYBE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURE OR WARRNTY?
V6 engine. Bought it new and had BAD GAS MILEAGE, showing 9 to 11 MPG in the city or only 300 miles per tank on the highway. Took it to be serviced and they told me everything was "OK" and try riding it a few thousand more miles to see if it would improve? It didn't? I now have 50,000 miles on it and I'm getting anywhere from 20 t0 21 plus MPG??? I just had a problem with the A/C dropping out and then coming back on intermittently? I took it to a dealer which now I've purchased an after warranty policy to PROTECT myself and they found a seal had deteriorated in the cowling causing almost $700.oo for repairs. The warranty company said they weren't covering this because it was a defect in car manufacturing? Mercury and Ford says "NO" it isn't? Check Your GOOD seals before they go BAD which the manufacture says "NEVER WILL"?

This car has been a great car to me. For an suv it actually gets really great gas mileage and is reliable even in the crazy winter months. On top of that it has every option I was looking for!

I love my Mariner.
One of the best cars (probably the best) I've ever had. I purchased it new in mid-2011. Since then, the car has visited the body shop only for regular maintenance. Great value.
