Best car for the money

Purchased a 2008 Sable (base model) late in the 2009 model year after doing lots of research/reading/test driving... I feel that I purchased the best car in this class for the money at the present time. My last two cars were an Accord and Camry, and I think the Sable is every bit the vehicle they were. It seems that the resale value is not as good as Honda and Toyota, but I keep my vehicles for a long period of time so I'm not that concerned about resale value. I feel the Sable is one of the most overlooked cars out there. Too bad it's being discontinued... The jury is still out on the gas milage, so time will tell about that. It has plenty of power and is very confortable with lots of storage area. In my job I've driven the Ford Tarus for many years, and they have been extremely good cars. Never one problem with six of them...One had over 130,000 miles on it. I just feel the Sable is a little nicer automobile for the money. The transmission is as smooth as silk. The interior is extremely nice, but took a few days to get acclimated to where everything is located. I am impressed with the quality fit and finish as well as the interior convenience package that came with the Sable I purchased. I am also very impressed with the ride and little or no noise I hear when meeting cars while driving. It took literally months of reasearch before I purchased the vehicle and feel very good about it so far. Time will tell about the reliability of my Sable, but after reading reports of previous model years I have confidence that the high reliability ratings will be true for my purchase as well.

Exceptional value; very safe, great gas mileage

The Insurance Institute rated this car the safest in the World. That's a great comfort. This very quiet and comfortable car with 30'% increase in horse power over previous versions (260hp). Great gas mileage using regular gas. Great features like Microsoft Sync and backup sensors. Folding front and back seats for long loads. Gigantic 22 cu ft. trunk. Very comfortable seats. Great brakes. This is a Volvo 80 at half the price. Paul & Donna in Napa, CA

Very, Very Nice

Well balanced, solid, excellent road manners for a large sedan. Purrs along at 1400-1800 RPM, yet has a responsive and powerful drivetrain when needed. The larger sport tires on the Premier add to the car's ability to handle the road. All corners are identified and felt. Needs much less body roll, about 250 lbs shaved off, and a few very minor interior changes to make it shine (telescoping steering wheel, more money spent on the trunk with better finish and some decent tiedowns, much like a station wagon or SUV would have. I would also include for a shifter that allows for manual selection of gearing. I ma impressed with the quality and firt and finish. I am hoping to be driving this car for a long time, I get that much satisfaction from it. Beyond that, the new 2010 units will decide the fate of the Sable. I hope that Ford keeps the car in the lineup.

Great car

I just traded an'06Milan for an '08Sable. Great car. Has every option except rear seat entertainment system. The Nav/Sirius radio are great. Very much enjoy the "theater" style seating. Only things that subtract are.. It's a little "floaty" compared to my former Milan or Mystique that I still use every day(probably due to it's much larger size). Wish they still had the HID headlights from the Montego. Now mind you, these are very minor issues that don't take away value of this car.

Upgraded to a Sable Premier from a 05 Camry

WOW! I simply can not find anything I do not like about this car. Luxurious, stylish, spacious and safety features that are wonderful. Everyone who has sat in it has been impressed. Thank you Mercury, I feel very spoiled driving my Sable!

Fun to drive

I've owned my 2008 sable for about a month now (3000 miles) and have nothing but good things to say about it. Mercury really put some thought into this vehicle. The interior is much improved over past Sables, I've had a 1999, 2002 and 2005 sables as company cars and the 2008 is a whole new car that the past ones don't even compare too. as past reviews have stated the passenger compartment and trunk spaces are huge. The new motor is very impressive for a family sedan, I haven't had any problems passing on the 2 lane highways I travel. I upgraded to the interior conveniece package and am glad I did, The separate heater controls are great and the upgraded stereo sounds great. I highly recommend this vehicle, I'm an Insurance adjuster and see about every vehicle available and for the money this is a very classy car that you have to pay alot more with other brands to get the same options and performance

Lots of Bang For the Buck

Beautiful car at reasonable price. 3.5 engine big improvement over former 3.0. Tons of room. Five star safety ratings. Give it a test drive you'll be impressed.

Awesome Vehicle

I have not yet purchase this vehicle, but I will soon. I've driven a variety of vehicles, including the Chevy Impala. Nothing has really caught my attention...until now with the 2008 Mercury Sable. A friend joined me for the test-ride and said, "The car's not quiet...it's silent." He's right. The car accelerates, handles, steers, brakes, and idles very quietly. The seating is very comfortable. The trunk is huge; even bigger than Mercury's Grand Marquis. The A/C cooled the vehicle quickly on a very hot day. The car accelerated to 60mph while I thought I was doing 35 or 40. Silent & smooth!!! I'm 6'-2" tall. In my '02 Mercury Grand Marquis, there is NO room in the back seat behind the drivers seat. However, I set the drivers seat comfortably for me in the Sable and there was plenty of room in the back seat - even for me at 6'-2" tall. That was awesome. Also, the fit & finish inside is great. The only thing that I'd suggest is to design into the doors a decent place to rest my arm and add a large strap or handle to grasp onto when closing the doors. That's it. This IS my next car!!!
