Expert 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross review

Our expert's take
By Cars.com Editors
Full article

What Is the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross?

Mitsubishi calls its five-seat Eclipse Cross a compact SUV, but the brand already has one of those in the two-row Outlander Sport. The Eclipse Cross slots between the Outlander Sport and the three-row Outlander in Mitsubishi’s lineup, and it’s available in five trim levels: base ES, LE, SE, SEL and Ralliart. The Eclipse Cross faces competition from the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5.

What’s New on the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross?

Like all 2024 Mitsubishi models, the Eclipse Cross now comes with limited free maintenance for two years/30,000 miles, including oil and filter changes and tire rotations. LE trims get a free two-year trial subscription to Mitsubishi Connect services, while SE trims now include standard adaptive cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear USB port. Both SE and SEL trims get a new standard hands-free tailgate.

What Features in the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • All-wheel drive
  • Cruise control
  • Heated side mirrors
  • LED headlights and foglights

Available features include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Head-up display
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Push-button start
  • Power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Lane departure warning

Should I Buy the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross?

The Eclipse Cross brings unique style to the compact SUV class, but we found it lacking in many areas. Its engine isn’t that powerful, and despite standard all-wheel drive, it doesn’t handle well. There’s not much room in the backseat, either.

Gas mileage could use some work. Tech is somewhat outdated but works fine for what I need. Overall a decent buy for those on a budget.

  • Just purchased an SEL touring.

Just purchased an SEL touring. So far I love the car. I love the leather seats. Heated steering wheel (only heats up parts of the wheel), panoramic roof, and sound system. Room for improvements would be gas mileage and range so far highest I’ve seen is 26.4. The Heads up display is a bit limited since Mitsubishi used a flip up screen instead of casting it onto the windshield. I find it hard to get it perfect for my level of driving but I do like having the feature. Also, I think the infotainment could use a bit of tweaking. It looks decent but outdated. As others have stated, the 360 camera is blurry but it’s my first car to have one and it’s pretty accurate. Overall I think the cross is about a 6-7 out of 10. It’s not the best small cuv that you can get, but I personally think it’s a good value especially when Mitsubishi offers rebates.

  • nice in the day, deadly at night

The 2024 Eclipse Cross is comfortable, drives well, and is decent on gas but Mitsubishi has failed on a few aspects. The minor issues are the poor quality of the backup camera. Replacing the manufacturer installed with a cheap generic camera would be a step up as the installed camera makes it look like your reversing in stop-motion animation. Second is the sound system. The installed system is reminiscent of early 90’s Audiovox or Radio Shack speakers. The real problem with this year and model is the headlights. The headlights only illuminated the road for 25 to 30 feet while failing to illuminate above road level, and the lights are non-adjustable. There are sensors in the lights that cast distracting shadows at the top of the illuminated area as well. The brights setting solves the issue but the auto brights turn themselves off when there are reflective signs such as speed limit signs on the road, or if going uphill. Because of these lighting issues this year and model it is incredibly unsafe to drive after sunset. I emailed Mitsubishi to inquire about this issue a few times, but Mitsubishi has not deemed me worthy of a response. If you don’t enjoy music or night driving safety this is a nice car. If you drive at night, I strongly recommend skipping this model.
