I bought this car used in 2006, with 84,500 miles, now it has 298,500 miles, the car doesnt burn any oil, has never broken down, and from the research ive done, i have not had the oil motor cat issue. The key word is maintance and im very strict, this car is driven , I plan to drive it to the 500k mark and retire her. I can trust it going on long distances. pretty much all ive done while ive owned this car was change the oil and routine maintance. It doesnt handle any worse than any used car ive owned

I bought an Altima in 2002 new and it is still virtually in the same condition as when I bought it. Bear in mind I take excellent care of it, ie regular oil changes and don't drive like an idiot. It has never broken down and continues to handle very smoothly and confidently. The car's strong points: -superior acceleration with the 6cyl engine (I have the 3.5SE) -sturdy construction. no leaks, nothing rattles, quiet smooth ride -no issues. in over 120k miles all I've done to it is get new brake pads -Bose stereo sound system is great for roadtrips Weak points -turning radius not so hot -I wish I had gotten the manual transmission to save gas All in all one the best, most reliable I've owned. Highly recommended.

Purchased vehicle for my daughter and she lost heat. After finding no obvious leaks I got the air out of the system and she had heat again, temporarily! Since I was under the hood I checked oil, and not a drop on stick! I just got car from dealer 2 weeks ago, drove another week and lost another quart. Brought into Nissian dealer to look at and was told rings on engine shot, well known problem with this 2.5 engine. Only remendy was to replace engine or keep dumping oil into it until it dies! Weird thing is it is not smoking from exhaust or running bad. AVOID THIS CAR!

I am very surprised to see so many bad comments on this car. Bought mine new off the lot and have put 120k miles on it so far with no sign of a problem. I bought it because I had owned a 94 that I put nearly 400k on. Yes you read that correctly and yes it is in US miles. In those miles all I had to do was replace a broken engine mount (broken in a minor parking lot fender bender) and replace a water pump (the only common problem on the 94). Besides good reliability mine has iPod connectivity which is very ahead of the time and good mpgs (about 33 hwy). Again very surprised to see so many problems, I have had nothing but good cars from Nissan and will buy a new one as soon as they ditch the CVT transmission.

The 3.5L is a very good engine. I have one with over 150K and runs like new with a lot of power and no problems what so ever. The 2.5L motor is JUNK but the 3.5 engine was the motor of the year for many years and there is a reason for it. I love this engine so much that I just purchased another car with the same motor Infiniti G35.

I bought my 02 Nissan in 2012 and fount out very quickly it was burning oil. I kept dumping oil in it until she finally blew. My husband was driving it to another city for work around 50 miles a day and I was buying 4 quarts a week. Blew black smoke like crazy. Valves chattered and got really weak. Bought with 145k on motor and it blew and just died with 162k. I've tried and tried to find another motor but I've learned from 02-05 engines all are just not good motors. When I call to ask about one they want 1200-1600 dollars for them. Do not buy these vehicles. It's a bottomless money pit. It's been one thing after another with it. If I didn't owe on the car, I wouldn't bother fixing it, I'd take to a junkyard and scrap it. JUNK JUNK JUNK!

As long as the owner kept the car well maintained then this car is awesome. Absolutely love this car.

Fun Car, Unreliable Overall

I've owned this car for 3 years and since buying, have had to replace the rotors and pads about 4 times (brakes always squeak), the rear of the car makes a knocking noise (just the way the rear suspension is built; nothing actually "wrong" with it), have replaced bushings/tire rods, AC motor had to be replaced, and oil burns very quickly (it was very low at 3k miles). Overall, it's fast, very roomy, awesome sound system (Bose), and looks slick as far as the interior/exterior styling. It would be a great car if it weren't so unreliable.

I have the 2002 2.5S which I got with 70k miles on it. I wasn't sure of the 2.5 engine, but it has lots of power when I need it. The interior is laid out nice, instruments easy to read. The radio controls are on the steering wheel. The trip function also is handy and gives the latest MPG figures. The trunk is big, rear seats fold down to carry bigger things. Gas tank is 20 gallons which provides a 400 mile range easily. My MPG has been between 22.8 and 25.4 figuring it out the old fashioned way. The ride is a little rough on bumpy roads, other than that, I'd recommend it to anyone.

I dont like this car

by from New York, NY on January 3, 2011

Ive had the same car in the past and it kept breaking down all the time. I spent more money fixing it than what i paid for the car at the dealer. I wouldnt recommend this car to anyone. I hated it.
