The 2023 Nissan Frontier is on sale now and carries over a host of upgrades from its 2022 makeover. The mid-size rig got a modernized interior, a more refined ride and many new standard safety features. After the extensive updates last year, the Frontier returns for 2023 with just a few key changes, including a pair of new appearance and convenience packages and connectivity upgrades on select trims. Shoppers can also expect to see prices increase between $500 and $1,430, depending on the variant.

What’s New?

For 2023, the Frontier’s SV crew-cab trim adds a newly available Midnight Edition Package with black 17-inch alloy wheels, side mirrors, lower bumper and grille. Along with LED foglights, headlights and daytime running lights, the Midnight Edition also comes with darkened accents that include black exterior badging, interior trim and headliner. Crew-cab long-bed SV trims get a standard heated steering wheel, spray-in bedliner, cargo system with adjustable tie-downs, under-rail bed lighting and heated front seats as part of the SV Convenience Package. Finally, the off-road-oriented Pro-X and Pro-4X add standard wireless Apple CarPlay.

Powertrain

All Frontiers are powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which makes 310 horsepower and 281 pounds-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and part-time four-wheel drive is available on most trims; the range-topping Pro-4X comes with standard 4WD. The Frontier can tow up to 6,720 pounds and has a maximum payload of 1,610 pounds.

Tech and Safety

An 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard for the 2023 Frontier; a 9-inch screen is available. Wireless charging is an option on the Pro variants. As far as safety features, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, trailer sway control, a driver awareness sensor and a rear door alert are standard. Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 is available on all models and adds more advanced tech like lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear emergency braking and a blind spot warning system.

Trims and Pricing

The 2023 Frontier is on sale now and sees a $500 increase across most trims compared to the 2022 model; the crew-cab long-bed SV with the new convenience package increases by $1,430, while Pro models climb by $600. 4WD adds $3,200 to the starting price of the King Cab models and $3,000 for all crew cabs except the Pro-4X, which comes with standard 4WD. All prices include a $1,295 destination charge.

  • S King Cab: $30,485
  • S crew cab: $31,785
  • SV King Cab: $33,185
  • SV crew cab: $34,585 (5-foot bed); $37,415 (6-foot bed)
  • Pro-X crew cab: $37,015
  • Pro-4X crew cab: $40,015

Frontier S trims get standard cloth seats, 16-inch wheels, the 8-inch touchscreen and a four-speaker audio system; SV upgrades include 17-inch painted aluminum-alloy wheels, premium cloth upholstery and a six-speaker audio system. Pro variants get unique 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a Lava Red center cap, LED headlights, available leather upholstery, the 9-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation and a premium 10-speaker audio system.

Versus the Competition

The Frontier’s 2022 update set it up to better compete among mid-size rivals like the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. Now that it’s on a more even playing field when it comes to value, the Frontier’s starting price also falls in line with the competition: The 2022 Colorado starts at $27,630, the 2023 Ranger at $27,895 and the 2023 Tacoma at $30,415.

I truly regret paying so much for so little on a big pile of trash. I really thought l could get my monies worth buying this frontier truck which l truly thought my wife and l would enjoy riding but truly we regret buying it. when l tried trading it for a chevy truck the carry over was weird as l paid $38.000;for this nissan frontier truck and everywhere l went the dealerships would only offer me $ 22.000 to $24.000 and it only has 3.200 miles on it. Problem is l still owe $30.000 since we've had it for 10 months
