BRAKE FAILURE
I am sorely disappointed in Nissan in the way they dealt with the repeated brake failure of my new 2007 Versa. I absolutely love the car, but am disappointed in the mileage, which at the time was advertised at 30-36. We are getting 22-23 and 30 on the road. The car cannot be compared to the Honda Fit or Civic or Toyta Celica or Yaris, as those other cars weigh about 2250 pounds and the Versa 3200+. With all-around air bags, it has to be safer. The Versa (with CVT transmission) is probably capable of doing around 150 miles per hour, and is quite good on the road. HOWEVER... Back to my brakes. For about a week or more, the power assist on the brakes totally failed. There were two situations where it almost created a problem for me. I would not let my 17 year old 125 pound daughter drive the car. Nissan had factory technicians look at the car, and they could not find a problem. I wrote them another letter, and some little girl, with no knowledge of cars, calls me to talk to me. The conversation was better suited in a Jay Leno monologue. I asked Nissan, in writing, that if only one or two parts could cause this problem, why don't they replace them. They do not want to answer my question, and they only tell me that they can find nothing wrong with the brakes. WOULD THIS MAKE YOU COMFORTABLE DRIVING A NISSAN VERSA?

Best little car I have ever owned
I have driven "compact" cars for years. THe Versa 1.8SL performs well, has lots of bells & whistles, gets 35 mpg on the road, 30 in the city. Best of all, it's priced right - way below its competitors.

Sadly Disappointed...
The excitement of buying a new car was gone after the first tank of gas measured out at 21 MPG. I am getting 21-24 MPG. I purchased the Versa for the 30-36 MPG boasted on the CVT. I looked at almost every hatchback on the market and was excited when I found the Versa because it didn't have that 'cheap' feeling. Unfortunately, I'm sorry also to say that I wish I would have driven one alot more before buying. I am very uncomfortable with the steering wheel and driver's seat. I am a 5'6" average sized woman. When I move the seat back so my legs aren't hitting the lower dash, then my arms are stretched straight out. There is no place for your arms to rest and I've got the SL model with the small armrest in the center. The armrest on the door is too low for your arm to rest on it and keep both hands on the wheel. Everyday I adjust and re-adjust the steering wheel and the driver's seat thinking I will find the perfect combination. Engineers need to go back to the drawing board. It needs a telescoping steering column like the Altima. In fact, I wish I had bought an Altima but I wanted a hatchback since I was used to driving an SUV. I do like the rest of the interior, however. Much nicer than competitors I looked at. I previously owned a Nissan pickup for 15 years and an American made SUV for 10 years. I don't like trading cars but if the MPG doesn't improve and the huge discomfort doesn't change, I will be purchasing another vehicle before the 3 year warranty has even expired.

Versa
I love my Versa. It is the best car that I have owned. It is small and reliable. I enjoyed the car the very first day that I bought it. Everytime I get into my car, I smile. I would definately recommend this car to anyone who wants a small car for a great price.

Unsatisfactory Gas Milage
I'm a 70 year old driver, and not a hot-rod driver either in town or on the highway, therefore I cannot justify the 23-25 mpg fuel consumption that I'm getting on the Versa. It's a very dependable vehicle, but there's many larger and more comfortable automobile available that will get as good, or better, gas milage. Cannot figure out how the manufacturer is allowed to post the "28-36" mpg on the window stickers?

Doesn't get the stated mileage
With over 14,000 miles on our 2007 Versa Hatchback with CVT we have only gotten better than 30 mpg on 2 tanks of gas. We have taken several trips of 300 to 400 miles and got 32 mpg once and 31 mpg once. With mixed city and highway driving we get 26-28 mpg. We are very disappointed. We were getting 40 mpg in our 99 Corolla with over 200,000 miles on it. Two different dealers have told us there is nothing wrong with the car. We like the interior space and handling.

My favorite car
My versa now has 16,000 miles on it. I've owned it since August, 2006. At this point, most of my disappointments are with styling features. I wish it were a little wider for roomier front seating. Also, the glovebox is poorly designed. It doesn't hold enough. But I love the way it drives. It has quickly become my favorite car. (My prior favorite was an 84 Accord). It's not perfect, but it is well worth the money.

I am loving this car
I wanted to downsize from my beloved Subaru Outback '03 for easier parking/maneuvering and better gas mileage/emissions. Bought a Ford Focus ZX5 last year, but as time went on it felt noisy and cheap (the Focus engine is great, however, and it is really fun to maneuver in.) I took my time and test drove just about every other 5 door hatchback on the market: Aveo, Malibu Maxx, Caliber, Golf, Rabbit, Fit, Elantra, Rio, Scion, Impreza, Suzuki SX4, and Audi 3. The only car that was quieter than the Versa was the Audi 3 and it was $10,000 more in price and actually felt cramped inside. I got a Versa SL with everything except ABS and fog lights. Love the upgrade stereo, cruise control on the steering wheel, Smart Key (amazing how quickly I got used to not having to take the key out of my pocket!), and sunroof (never had one before, it's fun.) Feels like a much more expensive car than it is! The engine is so quiet when idling I have acidentally left the car running when I got out of it. Fortunately, it beeps when you close the door if the engine is running or the headlights are on. The only things I don't love: cargo area is smaller than Fit and Focus, seats could use more back support, and the cargo area cover is lame. Also, back seats fold down, but don't make a flat bottom for cargo area. (If you need versality for hauling stuff in a small car, the Honda Fit is a work of genius.) Finally, the gas mileage is well below sticker, I drive 90% in city and am averaging only 23 miles/gallon on 3 tanks so far. Hope it will go up as car breaks in, but not counting on it. The Versa interior layout is great, very comfortable, roomy, QUIET, feels like a much bigger car. I would have no trouble putting friends in the back seat for a road trip, lot of space back there. Although when I tested the new Suzuki SX4 I liked the ability to switch from 2wheel to 4wheel drive option, and I liked the interior space, layout and visibility, it was still very noisy, and like the Focus, ultimately it felt cheap. Overall, I absolutely love my Versa.

Very Pleased
After about 2,000 miles, I'm very pleased with this car. I bought the base model, manual transmission. I do wish I had included the power package. There is not an outside lock on the hatch. The hatch is locked when the driver's door is locked. So to put something in the back, I have to unlock the driver's door, then put it in. Arriving, I have to unload the hatch and then walk around and lock the driver's door. Minor, sure, but a bit of a design flaw, in my opinion. Otherwise, I really enjoy it. I drive a mix of expressway and city driving and get about 30mpg. Probably not as good as the Fit or Yaris, but I like the extra power and room. Very happy.
