SWM Seeking Fast Sedan For Long Term Relationship

I drive the 2007 9-3 Aero, have 48K miles on it and purchased it new. I took advantage of the huge GM incentives at the time and paid $29K for a $35K listed car. I opted out of Navigation and Touring package but as a Northeasterner I picked up the winter package which includes swapping my wheels/tire twice per year. Great move for areas with snow. Even with just FWD, the smaller diamater wheel with snow tires blazes inclement with ease. This is my 9th car as I've owned VW, Audi and BMW's previously. Without question the Saab falls short to BMW and Audi for overall interior appointments but for the money, I can argue the car hangs tough in performance and most especially safety/smart design. I've only had 3 headaches with the car. 1. Battery failure with 25K miles. (dealership claims the sophiscated computer systems wear hard on the batteries) 2. Coolant overflow bladder failed twice. (Recall on the item and cared for easily) 3. Coolant hose failed and forced tow to the dealership. (Not a big deal, was fixed easliy) One other issue I had was the car sputtering/almost stalling at idle. This was my fault entirely as I was running 87 octane. The salesman at the time suggested this would be okay given the $4/gallon prices. WRONG. Run nothing less than 93 octane in this vehicle and use a trusted brand only like Citgo, Sunoco, Exxon/Mobil, etc. This engine is turbo charged and will react very negatively to low grade fuel. The last point I wish to make is the time I put the car on the rivet. I pushed the to an excess of 70MPH on back very windy road. On one riser the car caught air and landed perfectly on it's trajectory. Even my BMW's didn't handle that well. It's suspension takes a beating and comes back for me. Great power to weight balance for stable performance. Overall great value if you're looking for a fun driving car and you don't car about interior luxury.

Outstanding in all respects

I bought my Aero convertible from a dealer in Mass. with 2K miles on it and had it shipped to Calif. I wanted Nav and Fusion Blue so it was hard to find. In the year I have owned it, it has been a total joy. We tried most convertibles in the $50K range and the Saab was the most comfortable and had the most cargo space and great, smooth performance. I love the automatic with option to select the gears. Our 2nd choice was the Audi A4 but comp. model was $15K more. Saab is a quality car!

Cheap Plastic Interior!

The Turbo V-6 is very fast. The interior of this car is cheap. The plastic makes a lot of noise. Also a lot of road noise in the cabin.

Overpriced, underperforms

I had to bring it back to the dealership 4 times in the first 6 weeks! Rear bakes needed to be replaced at 20,000 miles! Cheap plastic interior makes a lot of noise. No resale value, so I am stuck with it!

Great Idea, bad execution

Since buying my 9-3 6 months ago, it has been in the shop 11 times for a multitude of electrical problems. I have recieved excellent lip service from everyone at Saab and the dealership but still no one can fix the problems with the car. This is the second Saab that I have owned that has been a dud. I should have learned the first time. I'm going back to Acura.

Unique Styling and Sporty Performance

Purchased a 2007 9-3 Aero with 7 miles on it. Sharp styling coupled with sporty performance make this an enjoyable ride. V-6 couple with turbo provides silky smooth acceleration. Auto climate control, heated seats, auto wipers, 6 disc changed, the list goes on. 6 speed manual gear box is smooth, but not nearly as tight as the German autos. The Saab 9-3 has the most supportive and comfortable seats I've every had the pleasure to lounge in. The German autos trump the 9-3 in regards to interior quality, but I would still rate this Saab as well above average. Overall, a fun, unique and safe car.

"Sexy, Sophisticated, Sleek and Dependable!

This is the first vehicle I have purchased on my own. I wanted a vehicle that was reliable and beautiful! The Saab 9-3 handles perfectly and I love all of the additional options (Love the 6 cd changer in the dash!) The leather interior is glamourous and the exterior turns heads bigtime! The body of the vehicle is sleek and the car gets great gas mileage. There is a tremendous amount of space in the car, trunk, and glovebox. I test drove Acura's, Volvo's, BMW's, Infiniti, Nisson's and after a long quest found the car of my dreams! Thanks Saab!

More standard upgrades then most

We test drove the 5 different models, the Saab had the most options for the money. It turns more heads than an Acura or Volvo.

2 Thumbs up overall, but...

Everything about this car deserves applaud. My 2003 Arc has been a real blast to drive in the last year. Great handling (even without the sport package). The styling (inside and out) I believe are MUCH more appealing than even higher priced German cars. One thing, however, I found VERY annoying...as I am a sports car enthusiast... The original air intake and exhaust systems are highly restrictive. True, this makes engine and emission noise virtually non-existent no matter how hard you push the 9-3, but it severely hinders this 2.0 Liter's true potential. After upgrading to a performance intake and exhaust, this was a completely different car...simply put, a beast! Although the turbo spool, engine vacuum, and sport muffler sounds were much more eminent, it is well worth the price. This is how Saab really intended this jet to fly! After this slight adjustment, the car is a perfect 10. Happy motoring!
