How swede it is!
Great car, but not for everyone. Awesome ride. Mine is a wagon with a 2.3 light pressure turbo. Be nice to the motor - only synthetic and please change often - every 5,000 miles. You will avoid expensive issues! If you want a carefree car, get a Honda. They are the best! If you want a cool, Eurowagon with great pep, safety and comfort - try a SAAB.

After 8 years and still great!
I have had every model since 66. The 95 is outstanding and still in most ways still contemporary. Safe, fast, great mileage and great handling in a unique and comfortable package. Some recalls and a few other repairs have been needed. The car is easy to work on. Many parts are available on line. I have driven it past 100K and expect at least 200k. My 91 9000 made it to 299.7K before a wreck!

a great car for a ridiculously depreciated price
These cars come well equipped and in terms of all around passenger comfort are very tough to beat. Interior space, especially in the back is plain exceptional. I don't care for the Wood grain dash accent but its a small gripe. I am pulling 28mpg average with a v6 model with some 80% of my driving done on the highway. Acceleration is good throughout the range but is unmatched from 40mph to 90mph. Not many cars can keep pace. The show Top Gear has said this car will out run a porsche 911 through the range of 40-75mph and I believe it. I have dusted too many bmws and benzs to have doubts. Maintenance costs are doubled on the v6 compared to the 4 cylinders in a lot of cases so keep that in mind if you are in the market.

How Swede It Is To Love This Car!
I have owned this car for a little more than three years now. It is my second SAAB and it won't be my last. It makes for a great daily driver and has a style that will never get old. The seats are very comfortable and the four cylinder turbo engine provides for the great combination of performance and fuel efficiency. My average MPG with mixed driving is 26-27 MPG. I recently completed a cross country move and obtained 40 MPG the entire trip with over 700 miles on each tank of gas. You can't beat the luxury and driving performance for the price. It is now over seven years old, but still shows like an expensive luxury car. Buy one! You won't regret it.

This car is a money pit
I decided to purchase a used Saab 9-5, mostly because it seemed safe and solid. At the time of the sale, the mileage was about 62,000. I had it inspected and everything checked out well mechanically. I bought an extended warranty for protection. Initially, I was very happy with the car. The trouble started the day the engine light went on. This snowballed into major problems. To make a long story short, I have now had several major repairs in less than five months-- for, among other problems, a damaged fuel pump and a coolant leak that took several mechanics to locate. The warranty has covered many of the parts, but I have forked out a substantial amount for uncovered items, and the cost of renting cars while this one has repeatedly sat in the shop. Unfortunately, until now, each time I had a problem I wrongly believed that it would be the last one, but it is now in the shop again for what will be a repair costing THOUSANDS (the coolant issue reappeared, and the car overheated-- you do the math). As soon as it is finished, it is being sold. I have never spent as much time or money on repairing a car as I have with this one. Do yourself a favor-- do NOT buy this car.

Good car for the dollar
Bought my Saab 9-5 used. I have put 50K on since(85K total) with no real issues. Fun car to drive and priced better than others in same category.

Best All Around Car Ever.
This is it. I have yet to drive a car as perfectly suited to me as my 9-5 Aero. I am currently renting a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix while my Saab is being worked on after being rear ended, and I CAN'T WAIT to get my car back. Where the GP feels cumbersome and heavy, the Saab feels light, perky and eager to go. Where the GP feels cramped, and uncomfortable, the Saab fits my 6'3" stature with comfort, and has some of the most comfortable seats for long rides in the industry (possibly only rivaled by Volvo Seats) The car has plenty of power when you floor it, but also fuel efficiency when you don't. Don't believe the EPA rating. When set in cruise control at 65mph on the highway, this car gets 35mpg. The car is also an amazing drive in the snow. I recently drove up a hill 4x4 SUV's couldn't manage getting up. Some cars are faster, some handle better, some are bigger, some more fuel efficient. This car is near the top in every category, and the best all around car I have ever owned. Reliability is "only average". Not terrible but could be better. This is the only blemish on the record of an otherwise utterly fantastic vehicle. Just stay away from the V6. it's nothing but trouble. The I4 Aero is faster and much more reliable.

somewhat reliable
This car has never had a major problem and has always started despite the condtitions. However there have been ample repairs and mechanical defects that have cost much more than average maintenance. at 118,000 miles i've had to replace the windshield wiper motor and wheel baring, had the internal computer reworked, and many other usual and unusual repairs. NOne of these repairs are doityouselfers and each has cost a significant amount more than any normal car.

Major issues, major repair cost on 2000 9-5 Aero
Think twice before you purchase this car! How about a $1500 repair on a timing cover oil leak, which is apparently a "known" and "common" problem on these cars. Get ready to fork out some serious cash! Fun to drive, but the fun's gone when it's in the shop all the time.

This car is amazing for the money.
I have never owned a car with so many features. It's a blast to take a road trip with. I got 44 miles to the gallon when I drove from Colorado to MN. Very safe car and so comfortable. You'll love it!
